Hello guys,

I am going to be a junior next year in high school. After high school, I plan to major in Bioscience since I have a passion for science and it seems to come quite easily to me. I was going to take 6 AP classes next year, but my counselor had talked to me and said that some of the classes conflicted, so I wouldn't be able to take all of the 6 AP classes I wanted. Initially, I signed up for are:

AP Spanish
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus
AP US History
Jazz Band
AP English 3
Speech & Debate

The fixed class schedule that seems best now is:

AP Chemistry
AP Calculus
AP US History
Jazz Band
Journalism
Speech & Debate
AP Spanish
English 3

I can take AP Bio next year since that class is often available. I was wondering if you guys could suggest great classes to replace the APs or comment if this is a good/bad schedule. To me, the schedule seems to reflect more of an English major person, not a Bioscience major. Thank you everyone!

You have 5 solid academic subjects which is fine. Is physics available?

I am finishing physics right now along with regular chemistry. AP Physics wasn’t offered this year, but it might be offered my senior year (which I hope). AP Physics and AP Chem hardly have any students sign up for it, so I was lucky to have the class available.

I would drop either Speech/Debate or Journalism and try and pick up a science elective if you have any.

I tried taking AP Bio and AP Chem at the same time, but I could only take AP Chem due to class conflicts. I could only take AP Bio if I took out Jazz Band (which I love), or not take AP Calculus (which is also not a good idea). I know… I did not want to take journalism, but my counselor said the only classes that would fit in my schedule are art or literature classes. Kind of a bummer…

Also, I’d say AP Bio and AP Chem together would be pretty difficult if you wanted to actually learn the material at a college level. But journalism will still look better than other classes because it’s actually an academic elective. Good luck on your courses next year!
