So firstly, I wanted to ask how deep into your application do colleges generally look?I’m a current Junior at a new high school, after being at a much lower quality school for 2 years(we moved states). I’ve tried my best to take as many AP and Honors classes. However, recently , I’ve noticed that there are a high amount of sophomores in a few of my classes. I’m taking classes that pertain to my grade level but what I’m worried about is the chance that colleges will see this as me not pushing myself ahead in terms of class progressions. I have a 3.71 GPA at the moment, my weighted GPA being around <4.1. I have taken and passed so far 2 AP classes and this year I will be taking 3 more. I’ve wanted to get into schools such as NYU, BU, North Eastern, and above. What I’m mainly concerned about is will the colleges not like that I’ve only taken a few AP classes in terms of how many are offered at the new school and will my natural course progression limit me?(My old school offered less and I would, by senior year, have done near half of the APs offered)Also, do I have any chances to get into such schools?
For each of your HS, your guidance counselor will send a “school profile” that describes the students and courses that your HS offers. So they will know that you didn’t have a chance to take AP classes as a freshman/sophomore (and most people don’t). Taking 5 AP classes is quite fine!
