Junior in Fraternity to Answer Greek Life Questions

Hey guys,
I'm a junior in a fraternity who pledged freshman year. I thought it'd be good to consolidate any greek life questions into one thread. I'm pretty active in the community and should be able to answer just about any questions you have. Let me know how I can help!

How often does your fraternity host parties?
How is the general cleanliness of your house?
How true do you feel the stereotypes are that people may have about your fraternity?

I assume this will apply to sororities as well as fraternities.
I am nervous about homework and studying… and as much as I would like to be the best sister I could be , I would like to keep Homework and studying as my priority.

I realize the rush process occurs before classes start… but if we get a bid and continue as a pledge then how will that effect our studies. Does the pledge process help or hurt students when it comes to studying?

From everything I read the Cornell community is very close knit…and it seems like the alumni network is very active and proud. I assume being Greek takes that closeness one step further. I just worry about keeping up with studies.

Peppino:

 1. We have some kind of event 2-3 times per week. The majority of these are mixers (parties with a sorority), but we also have brotherhood only events, date nights, formals, and the occasional open party.
 2. While my house has a reputation as being one of the less clean houses, it really isn’t all that bad. It will never be as clean as a dorm, but I’ve never had any major complaints. I wouldn’t eat off of the dining room floors, but my mother has been inside of the house and I wasn’t embarrassed to show it to her.
 3. As with most stereotypes, they are based upon at least some small amount of fact. That being said, they have plenty of faults. You’ll find individuals that fit those stereotypes perfectly and others who bare little resemblance whatsoever. My advice would be to take them with a grain of salt and form your own opinions.

femEngineer:
Typically, the new member process is much more time consuming and extensive for fraternities than sororities. That being said, there will be some time commitment. The sisters will be understanding as they too will be working to maintain good grades. You will find girls who will be like-minded and form relationships that will help you to achieve your goals, whatever those may be.
