Junior Job?

As a Junior, I want to get a part-time job. However, I will be taking 4 APs (English Language, Calculus AB, Chemistry, and Spanish Language & Culture) and 3 other classes (U.S History, Teaching Pathway, and Chorus). Plus, I have different clubs and extracurriculars. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I’d suggest tutoring/homework help for kids around your neighborhood. I had a fast food job as a junior and it was just too much for me. I would get home around 9:30, eat dinner, and end up in bed at midnight most school nights. I tutor elementary/middle schoolers now and its a lot better. I get around $60 a week and it’s enough to cover my gas and any other expenses I have.

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking about a tutoring job, but I didn’t know if I should go for it. I would probably teach either Spanish, Science, or Math. Anyways, thank you very much!

I work at my local y as a lifeguard. It’s great, in that when off rotation we can do homework and the schedule is very flexible. Just about every one I have heard of is the same at other branches

I work at a place called Mathnasium. Its a tutoring place that has limited hours and its a franchise. See if you have one around you. You may only have to work 4-8 hours a week.

I have avoided getting a “real” job because it would be very stressful and limit what i could do with school. My parents also don’t approve of a job during the school year. I have never had an allowance so i never developed a need to get my own money. If i need to get gas i ask my parents to put 15 dollars on my card, or if i’m going to do something with the school and i want to bring money i use the money i got for Christmas like 2 years ago.

While i don’t have a real job i do mow lawns around my town. I started just mowing my grandmothers lawn because she was getting to old to do it, but i started doing it at more houses around 4 months ago. It isn’t very hard work and most people will pay you around 100 dollars to mow and pick up their yard. You wouldn’t get paid as much if you lived in the suburbs where lawns are small but i live in a rural area where the lawns i am mowing are between 1-3 acres.

If you are wanting to work for the experience and not the money i would suggest volunteering at a place near where you live. It could also be useful to volunteer at a place related to your Planed career, this would give you experience in the field and help you decide if it is really for you.

(U-Haul hires teens to be customer support representatives if that is your kind of thing)

Why do you want a job? To have spending money?
I would prioritize your school work as that will gain you higher salary in the long run.

Definitely get a summer job if possible.
But otherwise I would try to get a job that doesn’t interfere with your school work…e.g., one that is only weekends or that can be flexible (e.g., baby sitting, mowing lawns, tutoring).
