ECs:
-Varsity team member of school’s cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track team - will be varsity team captain for cross country senior year
-Academic Decathlon competitor and board member, main job was to facilitate communication among team members and teachers
-Tutor for inner city kids, have 100+ of hours of volunteering accumulated since 8th grade

Schools I am considering, in rough order of priority (I have visited every school listed except UMich and Harvard):
-Rutgers (I live in New Jersey, a must apply, top priority)
-UNC (my dream school though my parents are telling me to aim higher, very probable EA)
-Cornell (my reach, very probable ED)
-Duke (might considering ED here instead of Cornell)
-UPenn (high reach)
-Williams
-JHU
-Dartmouth
-NYU
-UMich
-Columbia, Harvard, etc. (not really considering going to the school, might apply just to see how far I can get with it)

Main Concerns:
-I have a really tough English teacher this year, and English is my weakest subject. My final grades for 9th and 10th Grade English were both A-, and I’m likely going to get a final grade of a B+ for 11th grade English.
-Weak ECs
-Very competitive class, #1-#4 in our class is probably not going to budge, knowing them, and not doing so hot in 11th Grade English is probably going to boot me out of the top 5.

Do I have anything to worry about, specifically that likely B+ in 11th Grade English? Thank you!

Your academics are fine. The B+ won’t mean much but the lack of meaningful ECs will hinder your chances at the top schools on your list. Use the remainder of this school year, and especially the summer, to devote your energies to something you are passionate about. Top schools don’t want academic drones who are not likely to make an impact on campus.

Good luck with everything!

You should be chilling honestly I think you’ll do great and you will get in. Your EC’s are a little weak but I don’t think that will stop you from getting in really. When talking about them try to talk about them in detail so colleges know that you’re dedicated to them. I think you can get in to most of those schools. Chance me back?

Dude, ya need to CHILL with the B+. It does not matter at all. (I got into UChicago with like so many Bs. (And I’m an unhooked Asian (Chinese) from a very competitive class.)

Your stats are fine. You should probs start focusing on strengthing your ECs though. What are you passionate about? Pursue that project this Spring/Summer with research/ creation/ etc.
