Junior Statesmen (JSA)

does anyone have a chapter of the Junior State of America at their school? I am starting one at my school for this upcoming year, 2005-2006, and was wondering if people can give me an idea as to what kind of events their chapters do.

debates, jeopardy, speakers, movies....

pizza parties are cool to attract people.

mock trials

get creative

it's your chapter

thanks very much

what state are you in?

I'm considering starting the same aswell. I would definately like any tips on starting it etc. Should I talk privately with a couple people about the club to get some helpers and recruiters?

The JSA website has everything you need, jsa.org, I would recommend talking to officials in your state to get help starting, go to the JSA websites and look up the governor and the vice-mayor, try them both.

repping cali, what state are you guys in?

We just have debates once a week at our JSA. Every week is a different issue (abortion, gay marriage, etc) and the room is split into three sides: pro, neutral, and anti. Everyone just goes to whatever section they agree with, and the "moderator" calls on people to speak. You raise your hand for a turn to say something.

We have parties for Halloween, Christmas, end of the school year, etc.

im in JSA and it'a alotta fun! we plan 2/3 major weekend trips..its great..we go to DC in winter, and Phili for spring state/fall state..there's a lot of freedom...our weekly meetings aren't too exciting tho (too many kids in one room=never get anything done)

at winter congress, we had a mock debate.

"Is the Oreo cookie a racist cookie?"

...lol

we had one like: who's sexier Kerry of Bush?

haha
