Junior with several questions

Hi everyone,

I am looking into colleges to visit and apply to. I am a Virginia resident and will be applying to several of my in state options, but I also would like to apply to a couple of OOS options. I recently began checking out schools in NC.

I like quite a bit about Wake Forest, but I wonder how much FA to expect. If I were so fortunate to get accepted, I would need merit aid help bc my parents are in that upper middle class bracket (100K approx) that would most likely not receive need based aid. I know every case is different, but how generous is Wake with that type of aid?

Secondly, I am a bit unclear about the SAT optional situation when it comes to me sending my scores. I just took the May 5 SAT and plan to take the next one in June. Should I send my scores there if I am interested in the school?

My gpa is 4.6 and I am currently ranked 6th out of 350 in a public school in Va. I will have 7 APs by the time I graduate. I have quite a few leadership positions (going to Girls State, captain of my cc team, etc. ) I am also a bit unique in that I have a physical disability, or "different" ability as I like to think of it :) I was looking at some of the merit scholarships and I thought just maybe I might have a different enough background that I could be considered for the Gordon scholarship. For those of you that know more about it, do you think that might be possible?

Anyway, thanks for your help in answering my questions! Sorry there are so many!

If you’re in the $100K plus range, it really depends (I mean that’s a wide range). Regardless, as a general rule, WFU is less generous on FA when you compare it to Northeast private schools or even Duke, Emory, WashU, etc.

Don’t know anything about the Gordon Scholarship–sorry!

Lastly, if you have a solid SAT or ACT score (say above 1300/1600 or above 30 on ACT) then I would definitely send it. If it’s really terrible I wouldn’t. If you’re somewhere in the middle, it’s kinda a toss up I think.

Thanks for your help. I am just beginning to look into schools in NC. Wake may be a bit too small for what I am looking for, and I am going to need to have the potential to bring the costs down with merit aid. I’m targeting schools that have a good rep for that. I appreciate your feedback though! Thanks again!

Wake Forest does offer great financial aid packages! S is attending WF with an incredible aid package that includes a merit scholarship.

Agree with Wneckid99 on SAT/ACT. Send it if you think it will be an asset, otherwise do not send it. For example, I was very happy with my SAT scores and thought they helped me, so I sent mine, but my roommate does not test well so she did not send hers. We have the same GPA so I guess that’s saying something  Best of luck
