Junior wondering when to start getting teacher recs

Are juniors supposed to start asking for teacher recs? Some of my friends are but it seems a little too soon. When is the latest we can ask?

I asked for mine around Labor Day of my Senior year, and it worked out just fine.

march of junior year seems almost a bit too soon

well honestly, if the teacher's a nice person, he/she will give you the rec days before your apps due. i know ppl in my school who did that...

The latest would be 2 weeks before your apps are due, unless they have written you one before that's saved on the computer. I would first ask in late September/early October if you are applying early.

If they're a teacher you have now, I'd ask unnofficially for now, just for them to keep an extra eye on you and notice some more things to pad up the rec. Then you can give them forms and whatnot in late September at the earliest. But just ask your teacher what their routine is when doing apps, and just follow it. It should work out.

The earlier you ask your teachers, the faster they get to yours. You should ask you teachers several months before they are due, I think. I decided to apply to some privates last minute (like several weeks) and the teachers knew me so they didn't get too mad or anything.

it is best to ask teachers earlier.......you should ask a teacher to your recommendation right before the summer of your senior year.......in that way, the teacher has plenty of time to write your recommendation.....remember you must be curtious when it comes to asking a teacher for a recommendation....so its better to give them time and plus if they dont do it over the summer.....you can always remind them when you come.........keep in mind lots of seniors like you will be asking many teachers for recommendation....so early is always better

thanks guys!

I think its ridiculous to ask them junior yr and have them do it over the summer. Two weeks prior to deadline is both polite and definitely enough time. No point in having them do it months early when it probably takes them less than one hour to crank out.

one of my teachers wouldnt accept them in september....so it all depends on the teacher.....its better to ask early.....because what happens of the your best teacher is like that?

ok i think i will ask in june-ish this year....to be safe

other thing is, would it be bad if i ended w/ 2 science teacher recs? i want to do something science related, but the more important reason is that i think these 2 teachers know me best...

you should then have one science.....the subject you want to study...example if you want to study physics then obviously your physics teacher......and one from your math teacher....science and math always looks better together

My husband is a teacher and he's urging our DD (a sophomore) to ask for recommendation from teachers now. I know it sounds insane, but it's b/c he just started at a new school in September, he's teaching seniors, and tons of them asked him for recommendations back in the fall. He had only known them a couple of months! But in a lot of cases, the teachers they would have asked for recommendations had left the school over the summer.

So I would say that if you have a especially good relationship with a teacher in junior or even sophomore year, ask for the recommendation now and let your guidance counselor put it in your file.

Before you plan on two science teacher recs, be sure to see what your prospective colleges want. Some places (we ran across this with U Chicago -- I don't know how prevalent it is) want a math/science rec and an English/social science one.

I 'd ask somewhere between now and the end of this year if you are positive you know who you want. One of my teachers told me that it was good I asked when I did b/c he has set number of students he'll write for.

The general consensus at my school is that it's polite to ask about a month before you mail your application, and there's no way you should ask any sooner than two weeks before the recommendations are due.

no it depends on schools.....my school requires for us to ask in the end of our junior year........so loeeypie GO WITH YOUR SCHOOL' RULES.......we all go to different schools so different rules......if your school has the same rule as mine, and you ask two weeks before recs are due, you could be in big trouble....so do some research starting from monday

My school tells us to ask for recs in the fall.
