Junior year admissions success stories

So I'm applying to Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, and Exeter for junior year of '09. Last year I applied to sophomore year of '08 to Hotchkiss and Andover and got waitlisted at both, tear, tear, :) I just looked at the amount of juniors each school selects each year from the applicants and it ranges from 20-30. So does anyone here have any success stories from when they got in as juniors they'd like to share with everyone on this forum? Thanks!

If you check out this thread:

you can find a few juniors that were accepted.

However, you need to consider what has made your application different this year from last year. Getting waitlisted is extremely frustrating, and you don't want it to happen again. Will you consider repeating 10th grade? You might want to inquire of schools if that will give you a better chance at admission.

I never really thought about that option Brooklyn Guy.....I guess I will call and ask. Thanks!

When I interviewed at Hotchkiss the guy that interviewed me asked me, "Would you repeat?" and I said, "My dad is against is, I don't want to really spend a year 'idle'" then he told me that i would still take junior classes and I said that is cool, but my dad is strongly against it. I said, "What would you do?". He said, "For you or me?" I said, "For yourself". He said, "I already made that decision, I repeated. I was in the same shoes as you and I decided to repeat 10th grade. Ask yourself why not repeat, instead of why repeat."

I thought that was cool. It really changed my mind about repeating... He was very supportive of it and he said Hotchkiss had over accepted by a small margin(maybe he was understating it) and siad repeating would be a good thing.

Just food for thought.

hmmm i don't know about the schools you're applying to. When I applied to Andover and Deerfield for junior year they said they only accept about 6 girls at one and 10 at the other (I forget which) and get about 100 applicants for each. I did not get into either (waitlisted at both) but I got into Middlesex.

If you already got waitlisted at Hotchkiss and Andover you HAVE to improve your application by a LOT because junior year is hardest to get into. If you're so set on going I would apply to a school outside of AEDSH. There are plenty of fantastic schools that you're overlooking.
