What are your opinions?
As a parent of a dual enrollment student, I realize your taking dual enrollment for school requirements. At the same time it will be nice if you can get college credit for them. College credit for dual enrollment varies from school to school (like AP credit). I’m not sure what your high school requires or what college/major your looking at. Some colleges have a transfer credit eligibility listing on their website so you can check to see if your intended classes will transfer though you also need to find out their views on accepting college classes taken during high school. I’ve found that the vast majority but not all that we contacted will accept dual enrollment credits that match their own classes. I’ve seen psychology, statistics and intro to business on many lists but the others don’t sound familiar.
Is there a reason your taking college English over the summer then going to honors high school junior year English? Would it be better to take high school English both years of two semesters of College English one for your junior year and one for your senior year English? Is there a summer class you could take instead that will be useful for your intended major or a way to see if you do have interest in a potential major? I don’t see foreign language or science for your junior year? Are you set with them already?
English Composition 1 should be a stronger class than English Honors 3, so no need to take both.
You need to make sure you continue with your foreign language unless you’ve already reached level 3 or 4.
RECAP
Summer before
English Composition 1
HS
Precalculus honors
English 3 Honors => free space for whatever, since you took English Composition over the summer; take art (photography, 3D design, digital media…?)
AP US History
Research ( you’re informed about scholarships, the college process)
Semester 1 DE
Humanities
Critical Thinking/ ethics
=> both sound similar: you already have History with APUSH, so I’m assuming this is Philosophy? What about Cultural Anthropology?
Take a Foreign Language for the 2nd level - remember college levels aren’t the same as high school levels, so if you completing Level 2 in HS you’d register for College Level 2 or if you completed HS level 3 you’d register for College Level 3.
Fundamentals of Speech = Good
Semester 2 DE
Psychology = sure… but
Statistics = sure… but…
Fundamentals of Business = sure… but
You already have one math and one social science class whereas you don’t have any science class: replace one of the above with a science class. Make sure it’s not a “science for majors” nor “science for premeds” class as those are cut-throat. You want a “science for nonmajors” class (those often have a “cool”, “nontraditional” title).
@MYOS1634 @momtogirls2 the school requires English, math, history and research. After sophomore year I would have done 2 years of foreign language. I’m not sure of my career path yet but I’m leaning towards accounting
2 years is enough for a less selective college, but selective universities will expect a minimum of level 3 and competitive candidates have level 4 or AP.
Accounting doesn’t have any pre-reqs (like you would with pre-calculus /calc for engineering foe instance) but you may use one slot of DE to see if you like it, in which case taking Fundamentals of business I’ll be useful.
I would suggest on paper making a possible plan for the next two years so you can see where your requirements for high school graduation fit in and if you need any more classes for college acceptances (4 Eng, 4 math, 4 social studies, at least 3 lab sciences and at least completing level 3 of a foreign language). Accouning typically needs math through calculus 1.
I would try to take some intro accounting classes to try out the field -
Principles of Accounting 1 (name probably varies)
Principle of Accounting 2
then if you really like it and have space Intermediate accounting 1
some general business classes that may transfer and are included in many business core requirements
micro economics
macro economics -
intro business
business law
intro to finance
I think Principles of/Fundamentals of Business is a pre-req for any accounting class. Just taking Accounting 1 senior year would be sufficient to know whether OP likes the field - Accounting 2 tends to be a junior or advanced sophomore (in college) class so I’m not sure it’s a good idea for a high school student to take. Also, they tend to have a lot more pre-reqs. However Micro/Macro would be useful no matter what major OP chooses.
I’m hoping to get a full ride in my state university , would that require more than 2 years of foreign language?
Depends on the university.
Full rides usually depend on SAT score + GPA so the level of foreign language classes reached you won’t really matter but… it depends on whether you mean automatic or competitive. If you mean competitive then it wouldn’t be enough.
That’s good @MYOS1634 I got a 1450 on my PSAT and I have a 4.0 gpa so I think I’m good. I’m a freshman right now but was just asking for junior year schedules because I have to apply to that school later this year.
There a DE U.S history class that you could take instead of APUSH, (History of Americas 2010/2020) I’ve been told its much easier than APUSH and its the exact credit you would get if you passed the APUSH exam
@npcarney I actually intend not to pursue this program anymore. I will take DE classes in the summers and full time my senior year. I will obtain about the same number of credits. Thank you for the advice though.
