Junior Year, major drop in grades

I am in my junior year of high school and so far my GPA through my first two years has been about a 92 ish and i have taken every AP class available. First quarter this year i ended up with a 90 average, with an 80 in pre calc and a C+ in ap us history. I continued to take every AP class available. But second quarter is looking terrible, my worst ever. I'm looking at an F in ap us history, a 75 in pre calc, and an average of about 83. I don't seem to be motivated to do any work and there is sooo much with all the AP classes.

The colleges I want to get into are Syracuse, Villanova, Boston U, Clarkson, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Northeastern, and Hofstra. Do I have a shot at anything anymore?

You have a shot at it if you can bring those grades way up. Colleges don't necessarily mind a drop in grades, as long as it is associated with a corresponding upswing in your grades. If you can show that those grades are just a 'glitch', if you will, then you have more of a chance. Perhaps if you dropped from those AP classes to the level directly beneath, you would fare better. I mean, I only took one AP class in my entire high school career and still got into great schools. But you really do need to either start caring and bring up your grades or start looking at some other colleges that are more within your reach.

I don't think Syracuse should be a problem. I know someone who got in this year with terrible SAT's and no AP or honors courses.

if i drop ap classes, wont colleges look poorley upon that?

i compared my scores to what the collegeboard website says about the schools and my SATS scores are in the range of the better colleges in my list or better from the lower colleges. and my GPA is still like a 90. If i can keep my GPA at say a 89 this year and still have a 90+ cummalitive, plus keep my ap classes, maybe i have a shot.

if i do drop my ap us class and go to regular, its an easy 100 and would really boost my grades, but idk what colleges would think

What do u mean colleges in my reach? And do they look at ur grades quarter by quarter or no?

If you only drop say one AP class, but are still taking others, then it won't look bad, esp. if you are failing that AP - this means you recognize your limits. If you are able to keep your GPA in the 90s range, then you should be fine with those colleges. Colleges look at both your cumulative GPA as well as your quarter grades, if that's what your transcript shows. If your transcript only shows your mid-year and final, or just the final grades, then that is what they will see, as there is no other way for them to find out about your specific grades.

Your guidance counselor can tell you what appears on your transcript. It can vary by school. FWIW our school district shows semester grades only, not quarter grades. If you want to give yourself maximum advantage work very hard to get your grades up for the second half of the year.

well thank you guys for the help. i took my first two midterms. i think i got a 99 on the english but maybe a 68 on the pre calc. my parents are gonna kill me

Well, good luck with everything! I hope you can figure everything out!
