The classes I’m registered for now are:
Honors Precalc
Honors English 11
Honors Biology
APUSH
AP Stat OR AP Chem (more likely will be AP Stat)
PE 11 (required)
Honors Spanish 4
Theories and Practices in Leadership (a really tough program to get into, 80-100 applicants and only 26 spots, I was recently accepted though so I’m going to take it)
Study Hall (unfortunately also mandatory cause 1 day a week (or 2 if I do AP Chem) I’ll have lab for Bio)
I feel like I’m not taking enough APs, but I really don’t know a way around it. Some kids at my school are taking Precalc over the summer in order to take AP Calc AB next year, but my mom doesn’t want me to do that and personally I have so many other plans for my summer that I would rather not have to worry about taking a math class, I might be doing Finance anyway over the summer to satisfy a graduation requirement. We also aren’t allowed to take AP Lang next year in place of English 11, we are allowed to do it in addition, but that means I wouldn’t be able to take Stat or Chem, and I’m WAY more interested in science/math than English. Some people also took spanish over the summer for two years so they can take AP Spanish next year, which I actually will never be able to take. Additionally, other people are not taking Honors Bio till senior year so they can take both AP Stat AND AP Chem next year. So I believe there is one kid in my grade who will be taking 5 next year (only one) will that put me at a disadvantage since I’m only taking 2? I’m just doing the normal track for high level students without doing summer courses. I took AP Physics 1/2 this year so I have prior AP experience. If I do this schedule I will likely be taking 5 senior year (AP Bio, AP Calc AB, AP Psych, AP Lang or Lit, and AP Stat or Chem)
Also, would it look really bad if I took Stat instead of Chem and took Chem senior year? For one, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to fit in Chem cause theres only one class of it and one class of Theories and Practices in Leadership so it makes it difficult,. Also, Chem is supposed to be suicide in my school The girl who’s going to be valedictorian this year I’m friends with and she said she took it junior year and told me not to cause its insanely hard and just ridiculous, plus the teachers not great. My schedules already going to be hard because Honors Precalc is known for being difficult, as is APUSH and Honors English 11. Stat wouldn’t be as hard, and it would leave me more time to spend prepping for the SAT/ACT and volunteering, which I enjoy. But I know colleges look down upon Stat, so would that put me at a disadvantage? I’m looking at schools like Georgetown, Duke, UCLA, Cornell, Northwestern, (my dream is Dartmouth, but I don’t think I have a chance there).
