Would it be too much if I take honors chemistry next year? I've heard from others that if you pay attention and do your work, you won't have a problem. I've also heard from others that no matter how hard they try in that class, they don't seem to get it.

(This question is most likely for people who have taken chemistry or are in chemistry at the moment.)

Well it seems like your really good in Science so I would say why not?

But obviously there is a big difference between Honors and CP Chem. I take CP right now, I hate science and I barely do work for that class. Currently having an A- so far. So if you just wanna kind of ■■■■■■■■ with a good grade take CP.

But you sound reasonable smart taking all those AP science courses so I would say Honors Chem shouldn’t be too difficult for you although it requires you to actually spend time on.

You probably want alg 2 done before chem as chemistry is much more quantitative than biology. Anything equilibrium (which is big part of chem) will be a struggle w/o alg 2 behind you.

I’m taking Algebra 2 honors along with Chem honors and it’s not too difficult for me. My alg 2 grade currently sucks and my chem grade is much better. Regular chemistry is a joke at my school, but I don’t know how it is at yours. I’d probably take honors considering it does look like you are pretty good in science.

CP vs. Honors or Honors vs. AP, you should ask yourself the same question: “Do I just want to get a good grade in this subject and get it over with, or do I actually want to learn something useful?” Take CP if you just want an A without having to really dive into the subject, and remember that you will also be surrounded by people who think the same (except they’ll be aiming for a B or C, not an A). Take Honors if you don’t mind chemistry, or even really like it, and would like be surrounded by people who are willing to try and not slow down the class.

I took CP World History I freshman year (AP wasn’t an option though until sophomore year) because my 8th grade social studies teacher recommended no one for honors. Others switched up but I shrugged and said, “I hate history anyways, and all my other classes are hard enough”. All year I wanted to claw my eyes out. I take WHAP now and have never liked history more (can’t say I actually like it though), and people are much less obnoxious. It’s just a different atmosphere, you may want to consider it.

Oh, and chemistry isn’t that bad, but then again I have the slowest teacher and she really goes easy on us (despite it being honors). The other Honors Chem teacher is much tougher, but most people say it’s because he’s not good at explaining things, not necessarily the content. I’m planning to take AP Chem next year.
