Course Recommendation Time

I've got some important choices to make. I can either take AP Bio or Honors Chem next year, and my science teacher says he will recommend me into either, so it's really up to me. My guidance counselor told me they're of the same difficulty, and that I'm as prepared now as I will be in junior or senior year. If I don't take Honors Chem next year, I'll take it junior year so I can possibly take AP Chem the following year.

The usual thing to do is Honors Chem for sophomore year. I'm fairly sure I would prefer to do Bio, but I'm concerned about how it will look for me to take an AP course sophomore year and an honors course junior year. Also, if you've taken AP bio, especially with a sort of mediocre teacher, could you let me know what you thought?

Merci beaucoup.

i'm taking ap bio with a mediocre teacher. she's very smart and qualified to teach the subject, she just breezes over alot of important details that are on her tests and doesn't go in depth. the subject material is very easy actually. a little bit of review before each test and I do well on everyone. honestly, it will look good taking APs your sophomore year and AP bio is an easy subject.

You should take chem before AP Bio. If you want, you can take AP Chemistry. We've had a couple of kids at my school take AP Chem before Chem Honors, and they all passed their exams.

Can't you take both and then AP Chem next year?

i did what the above said and doubled up in sciences.

frankly, AP Bio was a lot easier than Chemistry Honors.

And now that I'm taking AP Chem, its a lot easier than Honors Chem.

it all depends on the teacher

Could I take AP Chem without taking Honors Chem, or would I sink?

You definitely could...Just make sure you've taken Algebra 3,4 by then.

Currently taking::
-AP Bio
-AP Chem
-French 4
-AP Calc AB
-Wind Symphony
-Research & Expo (AP Lit prerequisite)

Possibly taking next year:
-AP Physics
-AP Calc BC
-AP French 5 (same as non-AP really)
-AP Gov
-AP Lit (mostly in-class writing)
-Wind Symphony

Will next year be as bad as this year, considering AP sciences carry the heaviest workload??

Yes, but it's an AP course, and it's hard to get used to coming from honors. You'll get alot of work. Don't get behind on it and study every night. It'll be tough at first, but you'll adjust to it.

I don't think Honors Chem and AP Chem are really related. The only thing I learned in Honors that really applies to AP is conversion junk...

Yea. I've heard alot of kids say that they could've taken AP Chem without Chem Honors. And personally, I know a girl who take AP Chem in 9th grade without Honors Chem, and she got a 5 on the AP exam......

wow people are really smart lol....well I don't know a lot about chemistry, but if everyone says that all you need from chem honors to AP is conversions (which you also do in physics honors) i would say go for AP...for 1. conversions are easy 2. its AP and 3. brings up your class rank (possibly)

Billy__Liar: If you go from Calc AB to Calc BC...youll spend your first semester of senior year doing exactly what you did the year before. I guy in my second sem. Calc BC class is just taking the 2nd semester after taking AB junior year. Maybe that will be an option...

I'm taking AP/IB chem and AP/IB bio this year. i took honors chem last year and i'm still having a lot of problems with AP chem, for some reason i can't figure out. bio on the other hand is extremely easy and i've never taken a bio class before.
