I was just wondering whether my schedule for next year looks challenging enough since I’m only taking 2 AP’s.
BTW this year is going to be the first year I’m taking AP classes, as my school starts allowing AP’s junior year, though I’ve taken 5 honors classes in total between freshman and sophomore year.
AP Chemistry
AP English Lang
Honors Physics
Algebra 2 Junior
U.S. History (I didn’t take AP U.S. as both my GC and family advised against it)
Adventure Ed. (PE class)
How have you been doing in your classes before? If you have been doing well in Honors classes up to this point, you would theoretically be on track for taking on more APs
It looks good to me. I don’t know what kind of schools you are shooting for, but unless you are aiming for the very top, taking 2 AP’s should be fine. Also, you should probably take a language.
As long as you know that you can be successful in each class then you’re fine. If you want to have more AP’s on your transcript then you should consider self-studying some: Human Geo, Enviro Sci, and Psych are common (and easy) ones to self-study for. Also, with all due respect to @LeopardFire, I think it would be sort pointless to start your first year of language in junior year unless it is required by some schools.
@dblazer I’ve had straight A’s freshmen and sophomore year in all of my classes
@LeopardFire I’ve taken Spanish from 7th grade to sophomore year, so that’s two years of FL in high school which is the graduation requirement, however, I had absolutely zero interest in continuing along the Spanish track so I decided not to take it this year.
@liberries you’ve clearly done very well so far - why the hesitation to take AP US history? I think that would be the logical progression given your track record
Unless the OP’s school is unique, self studied classes do not go on the transcript, although the test scores might. Regardless, colleges will not care if you self studied a class.
If all your prospective colleges only require/request 2 years of a foreign language, that’s fine. however, if they request 3+, they really don’t care if you don’t have an interest in the subject. Lots of applicants would be content just to study math and science in HS, but colleges neither want/desire HS specialists.
1° Self studied classes don’t count and won’t matter to adcoms. Time better spent would involve trying to make an impact through EC’s or ranking at state/national level in one.
2° graduation requirements aren’t the same as college admission requirements. Most selective colleges want to see 3 years and highly selective colleges (top 50 universities/LACs) want 4 years or AP. Either take Spanish 3 or dual enroll and take College Spanish 2&3 next year (will be equivalent to Level 4 in high school, so you’re done in a year, but it’s a lot of work).
