So I’m choosing my Junior schedule on Tuesday and I was wondering if the classes I chose will be rigorous.
- APUSH
- Pre-Calc
- AP Biology
- AP Lang
- Policy Debate/ Competitive Speech
- Leadership (Student Council)
- P.E./ Health
- Spanish III
I made the mistake of not taking P.E. freshman year and my school does not accept credits that are not from the school. Also I plan on going into economics so I was wondering whether or not I should take second semester competitive speaking of marketing I. I am currently the state championship for informative speaking, but my teacher does allow students to take a semester off and still compete.
Additinally, during the summer I will be working during my free time, but a majority of it will be attending a 7 week debate camp. Do you think that colleges will be unhappy that the only thing that I focus on during the summer is debate camp?
Thank You!
These classes will definitely be rigorous. APUSH is universally known as hard; precalc can vary from incredibly easy to nightmarish, AP Biology will definitely require work, as will AP English Language.
Regarding whether or not you should take “competitve speaking of marketing,” do it if it interests you and relates to what you might study in college. You will thank yourself for taking classes you enjoy because they interest you, not just for college admissions.
I do not think that colleges will penalize you are “be unhappy” at all with spending 7 weeks at a debate camp. If it is something that you love (and it sounds like you do, state champ), they will probably be joyed that you are actively pursuing a passion, and not just trying to play the admissions game.
Overall: do what will make you happiest with yourself.
If I misread anything that hinders my advice, please let me know. Good luck!
