HYPS gotta accept SOME of you right?

That's what I'm banking on too ;)

My friend got into Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Yale, and Penn (among others, I'm sure). We were all sure that she had an extremely good chance of getting into the top schools in the country, and she got into every school she applied to. Wouldn't it be even slightly unreasonable to call all those schools reaches?

And by the way, getting rejected by a school doesn't mean it's a reach. You aren't supposed to get into all your matches, or else they would all be safeties.

Safety~ University of Nevada, Stony Brook
Match~ Cornell (according to princeton review), Boston University, NYU (slight reach), University of Rochester. Syracruse.
Reach~ Columbia SEAS (early decision), Harvard

Huh? NYU is much much easier to get into than Cornell. Much.

NYU is probably but according to princeton review's college search cornell is a match. But in my opinion it is a reach.

I'm still not 100% sure what would constitute as a Safety, Reach, or Match for me...but I think I have an idea. Here's my full list:

Safeties: Cal Poly SLO, UC Davis (IS), UC Irvine (IS), Syracuse
Matches: George Washington, USC, NYU, UCLA (IS), UCB (IS), Emory, University of Michigan (OOS), UNC Chapel Hill (OOS and a slight reach)
Reaches: Columbia (ED), Cornell, Northwestern, WashU,

I plan to limit the number of schools on my list to 3 Reaches, 3 Safeties, and 4 Matches....but I have a feeling it's going to end up being more than that.

As far as whether an ivy can be a match...I say no, it never can, simply because when it comes to those colleges, numbers don't matter that much anymore because EVERYONE who applies has the right numbers. Their question is if you're the right personality, have the right interests, and seem like somebody who could help build the school to be a better place.

Safties: SUNY Cortland, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Fredonia, Towson
Match: SUNY Albany, SUNY Buffalo, SUNY New Paltz, Temple, UMass Amherst
Reach: University of Delaware, University of Maryland

i previously had it broken up into four groups (as that's the way my school does it), but i'll try to put it in to three:

safety: u of arizona, u of wisonsin, boston u
match: usc, u of michigan, ucs, boston college

Safety Matches:
Vanderbilt University

Vassar College (can't beat a 3:2 women to men ratio)

Safeties:

Major: Finance or Economics of Political Science

ROUND 1

etc etc etc.

I'm hoping I'll end up at NYU, Michigan or McGill.

Williams ED. If I don't get in then I will go to Bryn Mawr on full scholarship.

Ok mine's changed a bit.

Safety: Temple
Match: Boston University ED, Indiana
Reach: Tulane, UFlorida

Reach: Brown

Safety: Pitzer, Brandeis, Goucher

Safety
Cal Poly
Match
Cornell/Berkely
Reach
MIT, Princeton, Franklin Olin, Cal Tech

Cornell is essentially a reach for everyone.

That's not actually true jPoD. Cornell is the lowest tier of the Ivies, and it's a match for tons of those reaching for HYP.

Reaches: Georgetown, Tufts, Vassar, Duke, Claremont McKenna

Matches: USC, Colorado College, Brandeis, Bucknell

Safe/Match: Lafayette, George Washington

shock. awe. I'm not looking for an ivy or DUke or MIT. breathe deep.

Reach: USC

REachy-match: Northwestern U

Match: FSU (this probably a safety but hey, but not in film)

Low match(i guess) : Chapman U

Safety(2nd worse case sceanario): UCF

Why do you consider Northwestern less selective than USC?

Uhh Frizzle, FSU isnt a match in Film for ANYONE. It's the hardest film school to get into. You prob. have a better chance of getting into USC.
