Juniors: post your PSAT to SAT scores

Try to improve the section with the 560

221/2260.

i actualy took the sat before my psat...
oh well.

i messed up math on both, 69 on psat and 710 on sat.
i suck at math.

R Turim,

My son's initial list of schools was quite close to that of your son. His class rank and grades were very strong but SAT was a problem. His first SAT was 1350/2020, with his lowest score in math. He had a 32 ACT. He used the "Xiggi" method on this website to study for SAT a second time, and went up to 1510/2260, which opened a lot of doors.

Definitely plan to retake but plan and study for it. If necessary, use the summer months to prepare and take the first SAT offered in the fall. Most of the schools you've listed are quite competitive, and admission is getting tougher every year. A 550 would be a problem, especially if it's in math or critical reading, unless there's some other extraordinarily strong thing to counterbalance it.

I would also strongly suggest that, whatever your son's scores may be, you get a ** true ** safety and a clear match. (A rolling admission school is nice as you hear from that really early and you feel as if a weight is off your back.) My son got into U Chicago EA so he did not apply to his safety, but the application was ready to go if that had fallen through.

There's a lot of dispute on this board about whether schools truly look at ACT and SAT scores equally. I think the Northeastern schools are simply not used to dealing with ACT. There's only a tiny number that get in with ACT scores alone. In the midwest, it is less of a problem.

Another problem is that we don't know for sure how schools will handle the SAT writing test next year. This year many schools are ignoring it.

Good luck!

cami-- fyi on the SAT writing test. Note that many competitive schools went from 3 SAT 2's to 2 SATs when the new SAT 1 w/ writing was introduced. In a recent news release on admissions on the Williams web page, they noted that they now use the writing as one of those SATs....they just require 2 SATs & now they get the SAT 1 writing, so it sounds like they go into the same SAT 2 bucket, totalling 3 test scores.

I hate to go off topic, but...why do you guys think so many people do better on the SAT than the PSAT. I thought the SAT was harder. I'm just wondering because I get my first SAT score in a few hours and I have no idea what to expect and it's driving me mad. (Don't tell me to relax; I can't)

I personally did better on the PSAT. However, most of the people I know did better on the SAT. I think people do better on the SAT, because there are more questions. There is more margin for error than on the PSAT.

237/2320...I missed the tile question in the math psat. My SAT was 1600 M/CR, so I'm definitely happy with it, and don't plan to retake. I was very happily surprised with my math score, though the 720 writing was a little disappointing. Ok, that sounded obnoxious, but I'm a highly english oriented person.

dsctt726-- I also think more test-takers take the SATs more seriously, with better mental prep.

Jan SAT 750 CR, 800W, 760M - 2310

Guess i took math for granted and focused on the other two after the PSAT. I am a math/science/language person. I think i will be/appear to be a completely out of touch tool if I take the whole test again, just to try to get 800 in Math. I already got the 800 on Math II, SAT II already. Anyone disagree?

Soph PSAT: 190
Junior PSAT: 212 71cr/70m/71w
Junior SAT I: 2110 69cr/70m/72w
(essay killed me, I got an 8! But colleges don't care about that too much right??)
