juniors who are applying to uchicago next year

im applying to u chicago next year. is there any chance with a 3.6-3.7 GPA

i think u have a chance.. depends on a lot more than GPA though..

does chicago take just the act score or do you also have to sumbit sat 2's

you can submit only the SAT I or an ACT score. As of now, Chicago does not require any SAT IIs

of course you have a chance. no matter what your GPA, i think you should apply wherever you think you'll have a good time. sure there's the chance you'll be rejected, but, at least in my opinion, i think that's better than having never found out whether you could go to your dream school. don't limit yourself just because you think your stats "aren't good enough." really. :)

oh, koinonia.....such passion....such conviction.

How sexy.

goodness koinonia u give me hope, very few ppl on these threads give hope of getting in, except for ohio_mom.. thanks a million

haha, no problem, i'd hate to see any of you limit yourselves and live with regrets.

e^2, you don't even know how sexy. ^_-

im applying next year. intended major:biochem, location: az (hope that helps a bit)

just put your heart into your application, show u of c how much you love them, and how you will excel and grow in their school, then i don't think you should have anything to worry about...

and if they don't accept you, which just like yours is my worst fear, just think why would you want to go to a school that doesn't love you as much as you love it!

nada07 -
just remember that if chicago attracts you there are other schools with a similar academic appeal - Bryn Mawr and Smith (if you are female), Brandeis, Reed, U of R, Wesleyan, Case, Penn State (honors ideally)- just to name a few. If you have constructed your list carefully, a denial at one simply means that you follow a different path - not that you are falling into a chasm (a la Wile E Coyote).

thanks ohio_mom, and i'm really limited actually.. my parents want me to stay in-state (illinois residence) and there are so many things that apeal to me about u of c, first of all because my dad works at Argonne National Labs, i get half off tuition at u of c, my mom went to northwestern and it's great, but it just doesn't have the u of c charm... but thanks for the advice.. maybe my rents will let me apply to penn state. but it's still doubtful..

my list includes,
u of i, u of c, northwestern, u of wisc-madison, UIC, u mich, and maybe minnesota, loyola (safety),

my rents say apply to wherever i want and then we'll talk after i get my decisions.. in addition if i don't get into u of c undergrad, there's always grad school and a pHd

LOL - looks like illinois has annexed minnesota and wisconsin - well, that's ok, your list as it stands is pretty solid. See if you can add Case - the app is free and they offer merit money PSU.

well, my sis got money at both when she applied.. minnesota is a last resort tho.. my rents really want me to stay close.. i live in the chicago area.. the only reason my mom likes wisconsin is bc my dad used 2 b a proffessor there..

i'll try and apply at Case and PSU for sure.. thanks for all the advice :)

Dont write off minnesota because its far...its a great state school and a very beatiful campus (IMHO, not something madison has going for it). Its certainly not that far from chicago and really, you should do what you want and if you want to be a little further away, go ahead. It's a 6 hour drive to minneapolis or a $49 airTran flight. It's not chicago but its a cool school.

thanks, they sent me letters i'll apply and visit if possible (my rents really constrict me on this college visiting stuff)
