^ I’m pretty excited for college apps, too! As an avid writer, I’m looking forward to seeing if I can meet the challenge of conveying my life, love, flesh, and mind through mere words.

My college list right now is something like- Claremont McKenna, Pomona, Swarthmore, Hahvahhhd, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, Rutgers- New Brunswick. It’s definitely going to change, though.

i’m looking forward to apps too! it’s like that moment where all the hard work you’ve put in before just kind of congregates in one place and can be happy for a while on paper.

i’m thinking of applying to uchicago, georgetown, brown, harvard, princeton, mit, carnegie mellon, upitt, tufts, bostonu. that list, too, is really unofficial and long though…

ps. can someone please explain to me the whole thing with sending sat and sat ii scores to colleges next year (or this year, actually, woah again!) do we have to pay for every college we send to or is it just on the transcript or what?

Yeah, you have to pay $9.50 for EVERy college you send it to. You can get fee waivers though I think if that’s a problem.
Most college require official scores, which can only be sent through the CollegeBoard. My friend this year applied to a few schools where they said it was ok if the counselor just sent them the scores or something. A few scholarships can be sent with unofficial score report too.

Anybody else’s school make them pay for transcripts? We have to pay like $2? I think to get official transcripts. It sucks.

All that PLUS college app fees are going to be expensive. Sorry mom and dad haha.

I used to be an avid writer…had inspirations to become an author. But now I don’t write like at all. I DO want to see how good I can be though. I want to make the person reading my app to feel like I’m talking directly to them and make them feel like they’re part of the experience or something you know? I want them to see ME behind that piece of paper.

CClurker, dont go to cmc, its overrated. but swarthmore def. r u from socal?

You’re pretty much amazing for that reply!

My school charges 3 bucks I think after your first three transcript requests.

Now this sounds extremely nerdy, but I am very excited to apply for scholarships! All sorts of them. I constantly look on the fin. aid board for scholarships and I add them to a list I have in Word. :D

giftedgothic: I would be if I didn’t have to look for them. I swear, it’s so annoying to research scholarships. Anyone have a particularly good website?

pandadragon: “i can’t imagine how nice it must be to be a second semester senior.” Unless you’re at the top of the class. Then, while all your friends are slacking, you have to keep slaving away to stay at #2 or get higher, as I will be.

joshcasto- What I’ve done is gone on the Financial Aid board on CC and look at threads that current seniors are asking information for. Then I look into it, see if I qualify, and put it in my list.

FastWeb sometimes yields interesting scholarships, but many of them are national and I feel like I have no chance of winning.

Also, check into your guidance office now and see what scholarships they have. That’s helped me a lot.

No, I’m actually from NJ! SoCal is a really cool place though (the birthplace of A7X has to be). What’s overrated about CMC?

Giftedgothic, thank you for posting about scholarships, you reminded me to look into them too…

I think CMC’s leadership programs are bs.
and my school charges me $5 for every transcript…■■■
and gah i hate essays…cant write for my life…

^your school CHARGES you for every transcript??
wow that sucks. i can get as many as i want for free.

^ Me too. That’s absurd that they charge you. I ask my guidance counselor and about two periods later I have it in my hands.

Free at my school too. Go in at lunch, get berated for not ordering one in the morning, wait 5 minutes and voila.

Dang. I guess I feel better about my school “only” charging $2 for transcripts.
BUT they take FOREVER to get them to you from what I’ve heard. Some of my friends wait for like 3-4 days to get theirs because you have to get a transcript request form, and it has to be processed, and then when the counselors get around to it, they have to print it on special paper with a special seal or whatever. The administration is so freakin slow at my school. Especially the counseling office.

Wow, I’m like 99.9999% positive my school doesn’t charge for transcripts, but I’ll have to check…I never even thought about that before…

Like other people said, I actually enjoy writing a lot (I feel like my English class/teacher this year has really changed me as a writer), and I’ll be looking forward to writing essays next year. I guess I am kinda scared that we’re the next class and everything, but I’m also looking forward to it. I’ve got a pretty good list of reaches/matches/safeties that I will probably change somewhat but not a whole lot before I apply, and I really feel like I’d be quite happy at any of those schools…

I have mostly reaches I think on my list. But I’ve got a safety (state school) that I think I’ll really enjoy if I ended up there. Plus, I have a good chance of getting a full scholarship there…nothing better than a free college education haha!
And I have a few matches I like as well.
There aren’t many schools I feel like I really don’t like you know? Some may not be my favorite but I can’t imagine hating it if I went there.

OH! and whoever mentioned filling out scholarships, THANKS!
I totally forgot we had to do that next year. I know we have a special office where this lady will help us find all these scholarships and everything…I heard it was great. So not too worried about that. I just need to remember to stop by ALOT next year haha.

Nearly all the schools I’m interested in are pretty much reaches for anyone…it’s kind of a problem.

My school gives two free, official transcripts for students throughout high school. After you use up those two, it’s $2 an official transcript.
