Junk mail from Gainesville area businesses

I've been receiving TONS of mail from local businesses offering rentals and apartments with the ubiquitous green label: "Address released as required by Florida Public Records law"

Then it has a computer printout of my address and name.

Calling UF and inquiring about my records, they state that the information is available on the UF Phonebook. I have since then made all of my information priviate, but now it appears that the whole UF Phonebook doesn't turn up any information on current UF students.

Calling the businesses and companies that mail the junk are unaware that anything gets mailed out like this.

Anyone else get this stuff?

It’s Making Me Crazy.

Ok…aparently after I called the Registrar at UF, they changed the way that student records can be accessed at phonebook.ufl.edu

You must now be logged in with the GatorLink ID to access student information. If this is the only place where records are stored, it should prevent future companies from gaining this precious information.

I’ve gotten a lot of this stuff as well.

I’ve definitely gotten 10 to 12 of them

I remember one time a crappy apartment complex put some cheap ad on my window and it burnt into the glass. It took weeks for it to finally come off.

Beware of the locals…

I got some of them. One was actually for an upscale complex, that was way outta my range.

Everyone should call the University of Florida Office of the Registrar at 352-392-1374 and complain about these letters. I’ve already done so, and if enough people do, perhaps something will happen…
