Just a decent or good college

I'm currently a junior in high school with a 3.4 gpa weighted. Got a 1700 on the sat and had very few extra curriculars. I played soccer my freshman year and was also in the Spanish club. I got A's and B's freshman and only had one C+ sophomore year. Junior year semester one I had low B's and one C+ with two A's. If I were to have almost all A's in semester two and my senior year would it show that I'm improving and worth admitting? Also if I were to take more rigorous courses my senior year would it help my chances? I'd like to also note I've only taken one ACP course and two Dual-Credit courses. Thanks.

Kick butt this semester and sign up for the most rigorous courses next year that you can. If your EC profile looks week, and you want to go to a private school, add 1-2 activities now rather than waiting till senior year, where they will more obviously look like application candy.

Well, first and foremost, a 3.4 and mid range SAT will get you into loads of good colleges around the country.

What you do from here kinda depends where you want to wind up. Identify a range of schools you are interested in and see how you stack up. Sites like CollegeBoard.org (the guys that run the SAT) publish admission criteria, typical grades and test scores of applicants. Some schools look only at GPA and SAT while others evaluate the ‘whole student’. Tailor your plan to fit the schools you are most interested in.

Also note that few if any colleges will see your Sr grades before making their decision.

That means, from a GPA perspective, this is your last semester to make an impact on college admission. It is also a good time to ramp up your involvement with your ECs - as Wasatch notes above, schools see through padding your ap with a bunch of Sr activities. It is also a great way to establish a linkage to the school, study partners and lasting friendships (which are probably more important anyhow).

Sr course rigor should also be comensurate with the rest of your coursework. Taking AP Calc just to impress a college can really come back to haunt you.

I’d also take the SAT again - and really prepare. You may also want to take the ACT which is a very different test - some students perform better with the different format.

Enjoy the rest of high school, it goes by in the blink of an eye.

Good luck.
