This is a random question + an attempt to talk to other future Reedies out there...

Is anyone out there concerned about the lack of sports fervor/extracurricular happenings at Reed? Not to say that I am yearning for a party school and not to copy the already existing thread about Reed being tough, but the fact that Reed, as some say may appear "dead," is somewhat daunting to incoming freshmen trying to find a balance in their lifestyles.

Or is it just me who recieved such vibe?

Its so funny that you got that vibe, because I got the impression that there would be plenty to do if you needed a break from your studies. I arrived on campus the Wednesday before RAD, and stayed with a Reedie off-campus the first night. We returned at about 10:00 pm, and as we walked toward campus we could just feel and hear the pulsing of drums. As we got closer we saw, like 30 kids just drumming...and people in the Commons juggling fire...it was AMAZING, to say the least. like some sort of tribal ceremony from Heart of Darkness. I also walked past two boys that evening with 20 ft of streamers, all different colors, sprawled across the grass. The girl I was with asked them what they were doing and they said "procrastinating on homework." They said they realized that there was a surplus of streamers in their dorm room and decided it would be fun to tie them on top of vents.

yea..maybe it is just me 0_o
i did hear the african drum collective as well during that same day (it wasn't hard to notice since they were playing right next to Westport) and it seems very cheerful ... but other than that day, Reed can be pretty quiet. Maybe it's just something ppl need to get used to
