Just accepted to SAM FOX at WUSTL 2021 and have questions

Can people comment on the Studio Art program at Sam Fox at WUSTL?

how large of a program is it?

is this a very stressful program or more chill? I have heard that the student body is frequently rated as one of the most stresed, but that might be a more direct result of pre med or engineering programs. Does Sam Fox suffer the same fate?

is there freedom to explore within the art program or is predominately a structured foundation program?

and what exactly is communication design major?

Darthdad – I can’t speak about the Studio Art program at Fox, but regarding the overall “stress level” at WUSTL, I’d be interested in hearing more – where this is coming from. Our Student is a sophomore STEM major and works very hard. However, I think what stress there is may be self generated as is the case at many schools. I do know that WUSTL places extraordinary effort in creating a supporting and nurturing effort. While our Student worked very hard these past two years, Student is very happy and loves Wash U. There are a lot of ways to have fun and release the stress.

I encourage you to take a visit with your Student if you can – it was a fabulous experience for us.

Good luck!

We are visiting in a few weeks. D was surprised she was admitted and this changed all thoughts about where she expected to land next fall.

She knows the Sam Fox art dept is highly ranked but not much more.

We are a bit concerned basing our “education” out this school and from an hour tour. That’s why we welcome and embrace everyone’s real life experience.

So glad to hear your student is thriving and enjoying themselves.

When your child is happy, you are happy!

They are and we are! It has been a fantastic experience for us all!

Student has a great internship this summer and is really looking forward to it. While we are a bit sad that they won’t be coming home, this is a great opportunity – part of us all growing up! We love going out to St. Louis and will do so in May and August. Definitely want to catch a Cards game! I encourage you to spend time both on campus and also doing a bit of exploring if your schedule will allow. Forest Park is a must. Great neighborhoods and very easy to get around. We are from a major Eastern city so having the urban experience nearby was a must for our Student. Campus is great – and the students are super nice. If you ask them what they think of the people in the Wash U community, you will typically hear “everyone is so nice” – and genuine.

Best of luck to you all!

Thanks, I will follow your advice except the cards game

We are from Chicago and it would be a crime against humanity to cheer for anyone other than the cubbies.

@Darthdad Me too! I plan on crashing a Cards vs Cubs game wearing full blue regalia.

Go Nationals! : )
