i just got my grad school housing assignment...and i'll be at the new grad residence hall on 60th and kimbark.....which is convenient for me b/c i'll be at the SSA for most of my classes...hopefully it's somewhat convenient for public transportation and grocery stores, etc. if anyone knows anything about this dorm, let me hear all about it! thanks :)

It is good location, but it is not convenient to grocery stores, or any stores for that matter. All the stores are located along 57th and 53rd Street. The cloest grocery store is about a 15 walk.

The University runs a shuttle bus (actually more than one) and subsidizes several CTA buses for transportation within Hyde Park. In addition, I suspect you'll find fellow residents with cars, so I would not sweat the distance to a grocery store.

BTW, the only grocery within Hyde Park is the COOP, which earns mixed reviews at best. For serious food shopping from one of the local chains, most folks drive up to stores on Roosevelt road. It's a 10-15 minute drive on LSD, and not an unpleasant drive at that.

from the map, it looks like it's decently close to public transportation. am i right?

i guess being further away from the stores will help my debt situation that i'll be in post grad school :)
