We moved our daughter in Wednesday and Thursday! She and her roommate are a good match!(Yea!), we were able to get parking up close to her dorm, the move in was painless.Within an hour on campus , she was comfortable and 'stoked' as she put it.There were a lot of activities for parents and the students from Wed night through Thursday afternoon- some together most separate.

The Orientation counsellors were amazing! Very friendly, very helpful, and very enthusiastic. the freshman are grouped 10 guys from a floor and 10 gals from a floor- which means you immediately are getting to know folks on your floor( roomates are not put in the same orientation groups) and also folks of the other gender! They did a lot of ice breakers and silly games, and went to a lot of info sessions: 'love and alcohol, date rape, racial diversity, honor code explanation, as well as separate meeting for each college( Richmond and Westhampton)

Two of the big highlights for us:

hearing Dr. Ayers speak- amazing!!!! really agreat talk about not having a plan about what to study in college-explore instead!!!! He was so affable, and real

meeting with our daughters academic advisor- honestly -thought about blowing this off, but SOOOOOO glad we went- we ended up meeting with her one on one- she had such great things to say about the university, great things tosay about a Liberal Arts education, great things to say about how seriously she takes her role as advisor-- we really felt that she would guide out daughter through this process, not just rubber stamp her schedule.
The advisor is selected based on your students possible major- we mentioned being pleasantly impressed with her level of interaction - she said the whole university staff and faculty us like this

everyone was extremely friendly and engaging- The newer buildings are such an asset to the campus( you'd be hard presses though to figure out the new ones from the old ones if you didn't already know!) and it of course the campus looked beautiful

we just had a great experience all the way around

So way to go UR !!

ps she had her first classes today and is excited! except for the 39 pages of small print articles she needs to read for her Human Geography class before Wed!!
