Just curious HAHA... BACKPACKS?

strange… I’ve never has this question to my Academy contacts but…

Is there a particular backpack (ie. color, make, model, etc.) that AF Academy cadets have to use?

BCT cadets?

any good suggestions would be appreciated.

my guess… is whatever a cadet wants as long as it is conservative.??

We are all issued the same blue backpacks with our names sewn on them. We were issued ours in first BCT. Really, everything you need will be issued. :)

2011 had black portfolios that we used during Basic. 2012 will probably have something similar. We never used our back packs (that I can remember) during Basic.

I've seen upperclassmen with non-issue backpacks. I doubt you'd have trouble, at least as an upper, if you had your own backpack (as long as it was conservative). I don't know though. Best just to wait and see what the 3-digs on here have to say.

2010 also had the same black portfolios, we only used the backpacks for doolie day out in BCT.

Do not worry about a backpack for awhile. You will receive both the issued blue one and the Kensington computer backpack (both are fine). My backpack broke (My organic chemistry book is heavy enough to crush an elephant) so I use my own from before coming.

The regs are:
1. Issued blue USAFA or plain, solid black backpacks may be carried in left
hand, over left or both shoulders while in AF blue uniform.
2. Backpacks are not to be worn over both shoulders while in service dress
uniform or parade uniform.
3. Issued blue USAFA, plain, solid black, olive drab or woodland camouflage
backpacks may be carried in left hand, over left or both shoulders while in
BDUs.
4. No other colors or any color combination of backpacks shall be carried.
5. Issued blue USAFA backpack shall not be altered in appearance (e.g.
affixing patches or pins etc.)
6. Bags or backpacks SHALL NOT be worn with shoulder straps across the
chest in any uniform combination.

That should be all that you need (and more).

Oh yeah...I kinda forgot about using them for Doolie Day Out... :)

Thanks hornet.

ok... good.

so... what happens to the bag (a backpack?) that I bring my boots, razor, and toothpaste in to I-day ?

they take it and store it (and any contraband) in a random room for beast

Hornet I got issued that same black portfolio when I entered Basic Training at Lackland AFB in 1980. I know you weren't even born yet...stop laughing now.

haha. ^^^^^^

thanks for all the advice. :)
