Just curious what you guys think my chances are to these schools

@TooOld4School I don’t know where you get the info, but ACT 31 in Math is rather low for UMich CoE. The composite ACT mid 50 was 31-34 in the last few years and the admitted median was 33 last year. They put more emphasis on the Math section score, so it is not likely to be below the composite score.

@TooOld4School I just checked the mid 50 ACT Math section score for UMich CoE enrolled freshmen to be 32-35 for 2013 and 31-35 for 2014. Admission stat is always even higher. For ACT composite score, the mid 50 shifted one point up for admission (31-34) from enrolled freshmen range (30-33).
For MIT, the mid 50 (not average) ACT Math section score is 34-36. In other words, only 25% of admitted students scored 34 or below in Math section score.

thanks for the help, so you guys think I should try the act again? or stick with the sat and try and improve that one?

and @TooOld4School Im not really expecting me taking college classes to carry me, but I think its still a good sign aand shows I can handle rigorous classes

CoE says that they won’t consider ACT math scores under 31. If the OP does not have at least a 31, it appears that it is automatic rejection. That is what I meant.

Also I realize my list, even the reduced one, is reach heavy, so if anyone has any suggestions for any more match schools that would be really appreciated. For the most part I dont want to go to an out of state public school (because of tuition, im an nc resident) unless that school is known for having good financial aid for out of state students. If anybody has any suggestions that would be awesome as I have had trouble finding some and always get distracted by even more reach schools to look at. If your post is useful I will chance back if I have any knowledge on the schools you’re asking about!

I don’t think there is such policy at UMich CoE. 31 in ACT Math section score was the 25th percentile of enrolled CoE freshmen for 2012 and 2014. In 2013, it was 32.

Bumpity bump bump, bumpity bump bump, to the top of the posts we go

  1. naval academy - i'm not sure about military schools, sorry!
  2. mit - reach
  3. Princeton - reach
  4. stanford - reach
  5. cornell - reach/low reach
  6. NC state - safety?
  7. Caltech - reach
  8. Williams - reach/low reach
  9. Columbia - reach
  10. uchicago - reach/low reach
  11. GT - reach/low reach

you have very selective schools but i think you have a solid shot!

-So i took the act again and my new composite is 33
with M: 35 S: 35 R: 34 E: 29, i was kind of hoping my english would go up at least 1 to get it into the 30’s but it actually went down so idk, but I’m done with the act now.
-Also the internship came through and I have an internship with an international aeronautical engineering and manufacturing company.

Oh and i dont think i mentioned my SAT II scores, i got a 750 on math 2 and chem.

Congrats! At least now your ACT is at the admission median of UMich CoE, so it cannot be a reason for rejection. Your Math section score is good which helps. Work on the essay and submit the application. Your chance should be around the admission rate.

I believe all those schools are reaches or low reached for you except for the state schools. You need to have a more balance list. Although you have a seemingly good GPA but you have achieved that with a less rigorous course work which counts against you for more selective schools (eventhough it is your school limitation, but elite schools want to see that you could do more elsewhere to make up for that … Which you did not do much yet! Your scores are not that impressive either!)

I would think that the 50+ college credits completed at a near 4.0 would get some attention. Or am I wrong?

It should! Sorry that I did not notice that rearlier. But still most of those schools are reaches!

Do you guys think that the stem focused schools on my list would be willing to overlook, not completely, but partially, my act english score in favor of my 35 math and science scores, also for MIT i know how my sat II scores stack up but what about the other schools on my list? are the sat II scores acceptable for those?
