Just Goes to Show.

Now that I am through the process, I see the next class of CCers looking for advice, chances, hope, anything that they can get their hands on. Here is a fun activity I've seen done. It's kind of like reverse chancing. I applied to way to many schools, in retrospect, but it does give me an interesting pool of data for this project. Here's how it works:

I will post the schools I applied to, and my stats. I have already received decisions from all of them, and I know where I will be going in the fall. Your job is to guess where I got accepted, rejected, and wait listed. This activity shows that the college process seems random, but eventually, we all DO end up in our right place. Just know that.

See what you think, and eventually I'll post actual results. I wager not one person gets it completely correct, proving the unpredictable nature of college admissions, which should serve as helpful reassurance. College admissions are not a judgement on you as a person.

Go

PS: If you've seen other posts, please DON'T SPOIL.

That would be an interesting exercise. However, chancing is more a population statistics. A single datum may go anywhere along the distribution curve. So it is like betting on a horse in a racing. Although the bets are all based on previous statistics and observation, not many people win in each race.

@billcsho I see your point, but I think it’s interesting because it shows that the process is indeed fairly random, and not a judgment on personality, as most on these forums seem to believe. There is no formula. Just be yourself, and you will end up where you need to be. If there’s one thing I learned from this process, that is it.

The OP is basically supporting his own argument through his actions.

Of course the process is random when so many kids apply to 19 schools and colleges are aware of the fact. Randomness just perpetuates itself. It’s to the point where you can’t begrudge a college for denying a qualified applicant under the assumption that the college is only one among 19! No wonder demonstrated interest is weighed more and more. No wonder colleges are trying to protect their yield. The other side of the coin is colleges’ Machiavellian attempts at pumping up application numbers. All parties are to blame.

That said, have fun with this! I won’t dare venture to make my own guesses.
