Thanks for the condolences! And as far as my stats, major in Visual Communications, minor in Recording Technology. Overall 4.0 GPA, background in web design and marketing, but probably lacking in extra curricular activities. I feel like my essays were decent, but obviously not too awesome, hah! Hard to say what they are looking for. Maybe just a richer background in stuff related to the music industry or business? I know it’s not my GPA! :)

I will probably re-apply next year and until then possibly try to get some experience in a related job. Build up my resume and what not. MusicMovesMe, let us know when you hear something!

Is anyone else still waiting? I called today and spoke with a very nice lady who told me that I am still under review. She said to try calling back next week.

hi, i’ve just joined this forum as I have also applied for the steinhardt music business graduate program and haven’t heard yet. its killing me!

Hi all, I’m new to this. Just wanna share some information with u guys.
I was accepted into the NYU steinhardt music business graduate program for 2010 fall a couple of months ago…
I recently emailed the program director of music business about how to register for classes, and was told that we will receive some info in the mail in mid may.

andysink, if u’re still waiting for acceptance letter… i think u should try calling the school… all acceptance letter should be out by now…

I’m an international student, and am pretty worried about accommodation in NYC… According to the sch, there’s very limited number of on-campus accommodation for graduates…
Anyone can share some information about accommodation in NYC?? (The area to live in, and the average rent)

I called last week and was told that they are still reviewing my application. I don’t know what their deal is, but I really hate waiting like this.

There’s a lot of information about NYC on the internet. If you go to the village voice newspaper website (I think that’s what it’s called), you can find available apartments (studios, lofts, etc.) in the rental section that are near the university.

I have never lived in NYC, but have been told that $1000 US monthly for rent is kinda normal there.

i am currently applying for the Fall 2011 semester. NYU music business is my DREAM graduate program. i am extremely nervous to apply and wanted to ask the applicants that were already accepted, why do they think they were admitted into the program? I am a recent 2010 graduate major in mass media arts overall 3.0 gpa, internships with live nation, BET hip hop awards, a music marketing company, a advertising, pr and marketing company, and currently intern for the White Sox.

TenilleJ, it is my dream program as well! Are you taking a GRE?

I actually visited NYU two days ago and received some information. I am not taking a GRE, so I will display proof of my quantitative skills by taking Accounting & Statistics in my final spring semester…in addition to the skills I have already learned in my Marketing & Economics courses. Admissions told me to send an extra supplement stating I will be taking Accounting and Statistics in the spring, and it will indeed show up on my transcript (I register for spring classes this november).

Here are my stats:
I will be applying early decision (by January 6th)
B.A. in Management of Musical Enterprises @ Baruch College, NYC
Minor in Communications
3.779 GPA
letters of recs from my entertainment lawyer professor, one of my music history professors who has taught two of my classes, and the department head of the music department at my college.

EC’s
Internships at Atlantic Records (Warner Music) and EMI Music Publishing
Involved for a year in a half with my school’s student government, part of the first established programming board at our school (senator for event planning, part of the campus affairs team)
I’m part of the New York Music Industry Association at my college, and I also volunteer for 9/11 memorial field every year for an entire week (if you guys want to know more about it just google it or contact me).

Honors: Dean’s list honors, peter vallone scholarship, campus life award honors

I’m a resident DJ at my school and I used to do a talk show as well at the radio station

All in all, I’m a very social, humble guy. I want this so bad and I realize it’s going to come down to my research essay and personal data outline.

I really could use any advice possible! Has anyone been accepted? If so, what are your stats? Also, do you have any advice for the essays I have to submit…it’d be greatly appreciated. =]

TH3COOL im not taking the GRE however i am taking the GMAT. What all did they inform you of when you went to visit the program are there any specific qualities or previous work experience that they want a student applying to the program to have? tell me everything lol :)

I have applied to the Music Technology master’s program for Spring 2011. The deadline is Nov 2nd, but I turned in my application on Sept 27th. I am going to call the 3rd week in Nov. if I don’t hear from them by them… This is so crucial!!

Well, apparently they don’t consider internships “work” experience. What they mean is (the advisor was telling me) is that they don’t include the people who take the traditional undergrad-straight-to-grad route. They mean the people who graduate, find a full time job and get 3-4 years worth of experience in a certain field (doesnt have to be music business) and THEN apply for their master’s. However, she said not to worry, they accept a mixture of those (undergrads and professionals). She was just giving me a heads up on how the selection process works. If you have an outstanding undergrad track record with internships, (plus a great essay + statement of purpose) then there is no reason why you SHOULDN’T get in. in your essay make sure you fit something in there that shows leadership skills and potential for future management. make sure your professors write recommendation letters that also include this.

I applied for Fall 2011 early admission to the Steinhardt Music Graduate program - anxiously awaiting a reply… These message boards kind of help tide me over while I wait for an answer so just figured I’d see if anyone else applied in the same program…

Keeping myself busy these next few weeks so that I don’t drive myself crazy thinking about admissions!

Same here Preeek, I wish you the best of luck possible! I sent in my app a few days before too and my transcripts last month. And yes, I’ve heard early Feb or mid Feb as well! Are you applying directly out of your undergraduate institution?

Same to you!
I applied directly - did my undergrad in Communications and graduated in summer 2010. I’ve been working in the industry for just over a year - interned for six months and got hired in April 2010 at a Canadian umbrella format entertainment company - but I’m still young and I’ve always known I wanted to do an MA so before I lock myself into any job I want to make sure to have no regrets!

I keep checking my inbox and mailbox hoping that they’re early…
Keep me posted on any progress!!

I applied again this year! I think my application was a lot stronger than last time and I took the GRE. So fingers-crossed it will make the difference. I applied early decision this time so I’m hoping to hear in early Feb. I’m really praying I get in this time. I don’t know if my heart can take the rejection again. lol
