I applied for the graduate music business program as well and am waiting to hear back. From what I’ve read on this thread - I don’t know if my application will be approved. I might not have the industry background that you all have. I’m hoping to hear back next week for early decision.

I don’t know that I have as much industry experience as I’m sure many other applicants have but I do have relatively unrelated work experience. Meaning, I graduated 3 years ago and have been working since then so hopefully the time between ungrad and grad school will make a difference. This is also my second time applying so I really don’t know what they want. lol

I’m sure they want a dynamic group of people at different levels of familiarity with the industry - I do have related experience, and definitely focused on that in my application - but they might fault me for not speaking about my academic work as much… we’ll see! Fingers crossed - February is fast approaching!

Headed to NY this Saturday - would be cool to get an acceptance email while I’m in town!

And, yes, from what I’ve heard…all types of majors get in. It all depends I guess on your essay, to clearly state your goals and such. Did you guys write the essay answering the questions more directly, or in a narrative, more creative (poetic) style?

I definitely had a hard time answering all of the questions while keeping it all light and creative but in the end I think I managed a pretty adequate balance of both … It took me three months of writing and re-writing the essay to be happy with it - I really am not a fan of writing about myself. Definitely used up all 4 single-spaced pages though!

Just joined to post in this thread I’m actually still working on my essays and praying that my professors send in their letters of rec on time. It’ll all work out by the 1st, I’m sure.

Fingers crossed, and hopefully I’ll see you all at NYU in the fall.

My essay was more direct and the personal statement was balanced. I thought my writings were “concise”, but I hope they don’t come off short. I didn’t end up using the max length for them.

Just a few more days - Good luck to everyone.

I registered just to post. I am applying for the Music Business Graduate program too. I am also applying to law school. I was dead set on law school and wanted to focus on entertainment law (specifically the music industry). Then I was looking for a plan B, stumbled upon Steinhardt, and fell in love! if i get into law school, I will BEG to defer 2 years. I sent out my transcripts and my recommendations are in. All I have to do is finish that stupid more “researchy” essay =.

But I am gonna have it all done this weekend. I would just DIE if I got in. I currently an undergrad still, majored in English, and have no direct industry experience, but I am hoping they want a diverse crowd.

HI, I just joined today. I applied to the Mental Health and Wellness program… I really hope I get it. The wait is killing me lol… Are there any other MHW applicants??

I’m praying that my second letter of rec gets there by midnight tonight, but now it’s all a waiting game. Based on the credentials of some of the people who got rejected last year, I’m not going to get my hopes up too high.

How are you early decision people feeling? You hear back soon, right?

It’s killing me - It’s February now…So the wait is almost over (that’s if I get in). Otherwise I’ll have to wait (longer) for a rejection letter. I’m assuming accepted applicants will start finding out this week.

Yeah…I’m trying to stay really positive and wish/hope/pray that I get an acceptance letter sometime soon. It seems this week is what we’re all focused on - at least us ED applicants. I know when I applied on 2/1 last year I didn’t hear anything until April so as much as I’m hoping for a positive letter this week, I won’t hold my breath-too much ;)

I can’t help but refresh my inbox every few minutes - Let us all know if anyone gets any news!! I really hope they start emailing us this week - the wait is making me crazy!

A small part of me is scared every time I log in to see if anyone has updated. I think if I see that someone else got an acceptance that it means I won’t…But I still wish everyone good luck!

Got my rejection email today from NYU. I had a 3.3 GPA, what I thought to be good essays, I manage 2 artists on the side of my regular work at a marketing agency, have thrown some shows at local venues with some pretty good names, played in some bands, and some other music extra-curriculars while I was in school.

I guess the music business program really is as hyper-competitive as I heard. Good luck everybody.
