Just got my test scores, so.. Chance a forward-thinking junior?

So.. I am a white female living in OH. I go to a fairly average public school that only occasionally sends graduates to top schools.

School Info:
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, my school doesn't weight.
Rank: Tied for 1/260.
I've taken the most rigorous curriculum my school offers, which unfortunately means that I'll only have 2 AP's by graduation. I may end up self-studying for one or two, but as it stands, I haven't taken any AP's yet and will take AP English and Calc AB next year.

Test Info:
ACT - taken in October
34 composite (35 superscore, for what it's worth)
English: 35, Math: 32, Reading: 33, Science: 35, 11 Essay

SAT - taken in November
2290 (730 CR, 760 M, 800 W, 11 Essay)

I took the PSAT this year, and I felt pretty confident about it (especially since Ohio's cutoff is low -- around 210) but I don't want to jinx anything. ;)

I'll be taking SAT II's in May, most likely. I'm thinking Math II, French, and Lit. Are those good choices, or do you have any suggestions?

Activities:
I think I'm kind of lacking in this regard, but I'm really devoted to what I'm in.

Cross Country (4 Years)
- I ran varsity in 9th and 10th grade, but was injured this year, so I ran JV. At my school, all seniors letter, so I'll end up a 3-year letterman, if that means anything -- and it really shouldn't, my team is hardly competitive.

Debate (4 Years)
- This is my main thing, and during season (October through March, basically) I devote huge amounts of time to preparation for debate. My partner and I have qualified to state every year so far, and qualified to nationals once. We place fairly consistently at the local tournaments, and it's really just a lot of fun.

Academic Challenge (2 Years)
- I only joined this year, my junior year, because I had competed on a similar team in middle school and wanted to try my luck again. I'm on the "varsity" team, but we haven't had a competition yet this year, so I can't really speak to my abilities...

I've also been fairly involved in my school's art program from sophomore year on, and I've won trophies in the yearly art show my school puts on, but this isn't really a club. Also, I taught myself to play guitar last year, but I play mostly for fun. :p

Colleges:
Georgetown (EA)
BC (EA) -- I also have legacy status here, if that helps me.
Stanford
Northwestern
Penn
Brown
Tufts

How do my chances look for the above colleges, and what can I do to improve them, if anything?

Also, I'd appreciate any suggestions of colleges I should add to my list. Thanks everybody!

All the schools on your list are top-tier schools that turn away outstanding students, so they're no safties. Srry, but it's the truth.

I think you have a VERY good shot at Georgetown, BC, Brown, Penn, and Tufts. Stanford is the only reach IMO but admissions are a crapshoot at all of these. You really should add a safety or two.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/601606-what-my-chances-good-college-2.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/601606-what-my-chances-good-college-2.html</a></p>

Can you chance me as well? I will edit this with a link.

I agree, no safeties, but you're a strong candidate. You should def self-study some AP exams to boost your course rigor. You've got time to find safeties!

I have a couple safeties in mind, but I didn't bother to list them because I'm fairly sure of my admissions chances -- that's what makes them safeties. :p Basically, I've got Ohio State if all else fails.

Bump. :p Can anyone give a more detailed description of my chances?

Course Catalog <--- click view on any of the courses and you can use that to self study--You just need a textbook for a few, but otherwise there are study movies and readings etc.

Apex Learning - 2008-2009 Course Catalog - High School - Advanced Placement <--- great site for AP courses. Each semester of AP classes costs $350 but it is sooo worth it. They're so easy to do, plus, they are wonderful for exam prep. There's a teacher and you take tests and everything. I've done 3 (1 per year) each year so far, plus 5 this year. It's wonderful for me since my school doesn't offer any APs.

As for chances -- take some more APs and work on those ECs (try some volunteer work in an interest area).

Awesome ACT ... I only got a 29 in December of my Junior year but I got a 34 during the summer before my senior year... definitely retake and you will probably improve!! Good luck, you look like a very bright student with a lot of potential. Nice GPA & rank also :)

Georgetown (EA) - their EA is restrictive... so you can't do both BC and GT ... I would highly suggest not EA'ing to Georgetown as they specifically state that it won't help you get in.
BC (EA) -- I also have legacy status here, if that helps me. - Match
Stanford - Reach (as it is for all of us)
Northwestern - ... not sure, but probably high match
Penn - Reach (as it is for all of us)
Brown - Mid Reach (as it is for all of us)
Tufts - Not sure

Chance back? :)
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/601629-chance-ca-razy-iowan-ea-d-stanford-i-will-chance-back.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/601629-chance-ca-razy-iowan-ea-d-stanford-i-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Hope I helped!!

I tried my best to chance back, mostly I don't know enough to base my chances off of, though...

Also, I'm pretty sure Georgetown's EA is restrictive in that you can't apply to somewhere ED if you EA Gtown, but you can apply to as many EA schools as you want. That's how their website seems to make it sound, though I may be wrong.

Georgetown's EA is restrictive, plus it doesn't help you in admissions

If I could give you any advice, try to start something (be it a club, business, petition, rally, community service project, research project, etc...) that shows a lot of initiative and dedication on your side. Do a good job with it and you will have a great shot with these schools; your scores are amazing, especially for a junior!

Rate back please? <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/603053-ivy-league-chances.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/603053-ivy-league-chances.html</a></p>

I also think you have a great shot for Georgetown EA, BC as a legacy should certainly happen too. Stanford is of course a reach but you are in range for all and should get into some others too.

Just for the record, this is straight from Georgetown's website:

[quote]
In keeping with this principle, students applying under the Early Action program may not apply at the same time to binding Early Decision programs since they then would not be free to choose Georgetown if admitted. Students are welcome to apply to other Early Action programs or other Regular Decision programs while at the same time applying to Georgetown's Early Action program.

Georgetown University- Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Bump........

So, Georgetown's EA isn't restrictive, but I always thought BC's was. And I think the full scholarships that BC offers are only for its EA applicants. So, I would go with BC EA.

Boston College does not permit students to apply under Early Action if they are applying to a binding Early Decision program at another college. Students are free to apply to other Early Action and Regular Decision programs.

From BC's website. (Early Admission - Boston College)

I've done my research, I'm just curious to know how others see my chances..?
