So I was accepted to UCLA pre-business economics which is awesome!
But I heard biz econ was mainly accounting, while I am more interested in management.
However, I know accounting is a promising major and I’m willing to go to the school depending on how hard math is in accounting (I’m not bad at math, but I don’t really like it so much)
So, I go to the most difficult private school in my town.
I made easy A’s in geometry, algebra 2, and pre calculus. From 9th to 11th grade.
I barely tried and made A’s and A+'s in all of the classes.
However, senior year AP Calculus just killed my confidence in math.
I barely made a B- last semester and have a C this semester.
AP Cal in my school is well known for being hard.
My friend who went to UCSD last year as an engineering major told me that their calculus in UCSD was way easier than AP Calculus in high school.
I feel like complicated math is not my thing,so I want to know if I will be able to survive UCLA’s biz-econ major. (I plan to do MBA in Anderson UCLA)
Actual accounting math is easy (algebra). But most colleges with a pre-admit to their business program have required courses you have to take your first year or so, with a required GPA to maintain and minimum grade in those courses. You need to check the requirements on UCLA’s website, but I would guess that at least one semester of Calc will be required, and some colleges want you to take two semesters.
You’ll be required to take (or place out of) calc to get your degree, however higher math is never used in accounting. Nothing beyond routine arithmetic, and perhaps some basic algebra, is used in accounting. It’s a big misconception of the major and the job. You don’t need to be a “math person” at all.
