Just how much liberal BIAS and south hater is USNews?

Have to agree with k&s. Highly-ranked schools from typically conservative states that immediately come to mind include Duke, UVa, UNC, Rice, William & Mary, Emory, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest University (all in USNWR’s top 30).

Otoh, there probably is an argument for an EC and Cali bias, particularly when it comes to private unis - but this has more to do w/ the population and media clout of those regions than anything else.

^^ I don’t think the University of Chicago faculty in general is any more (or less) conservative than faculties at many peer schools. Any such notoriety probably comes from a few prominent conservative professors (e.g. economist Milton Friedman, former law professor Antonin Scalia). Philosopher Alan Bloom may have added to this notoriety with his best-seller, Closing of the American Mind, but he denied even being a political conservative.

Conservatives for years have encouraged a perception that leading American universities are in thrall to leftist ideas. So when a Milton Friedman or an Alan Bloom draws attention for ideas that don’t fit the stereotype, it’s not surprising if some people conclude there must be something uncharacteristic about the politics of the host institution.

The University of Utah? Probably not.

Well, actually, an entirely rational reason does exist for that behavior. Many of those children of Asian immigrants are eventually planning to conduct business in Asia - or at least are entertaining the possibility of doing so - and so they naturally want a college brand name that they can leverage when and if they do. After all, for the foreseeable future, countries such as China and India may, frankly, offer better opportunities for highly educated and culturally/lingually fluent expats than the United States will.

I’ll give you a case in point. I know a guy from Turkey who’s going to Harvard. His grand plan is to go back to Turkey and work for the government, perhaps eventually becoming Prime Minister or President (Turkey has both). Voters in Turkey aren’t going to be able to distinguish amongst the various program strengths at various schools. All they’re going to see is the Harvard brand.

Who ever said UTexas was conservative, Austin’s about as conservative as San Francisco.

not to mention, sakky, that China will soon become owner of many/most US bonds and thus, China will be our de facto owner!

calling the city of austin conservative is like saying that new orleans is above sea level. Let that roll around in your head and tickle your panties. They have more hippies there than a janis joplin concert.

Oh yeah, and as far as louisiana goes, we don’t give a damn about academic rep. All we care about is piling up our oil money and winning national championships in college athletics. Yeah, I said it, lol. Hmm, kind of reminds me of texas, lol.

Congrats to LSU for winning the NC in baseball.

Texas played a hell of a game, it just didn’t go their way in the end. At Least we know how to have fun. Unlike some of these socially deprived robots that post on here. They wouldn’t know fun if it hit them in the face like a 95mph fast ball. Too many sharpened pencils got shoved up their ass.
