My DS was a candidate for the class of 2018 and made it to the very end date but has been wait listed. No worries for him as he was awarded the NROTC scholarship and reapplied on the openeing day for the class of 2019. He is a determined madman!!! So as I digress and think about what he did some parental advise may be of some help.

1st. The wife and I stayed out of both the Academy and NROTC application. In the end, no worries.
2nd. For each application, our DS had lists of "Things To Do" which he stayed on top of "EVERY" day.
3rd. With only making it to the wait list our DS called and let the academy know if a spot opens he would like to fill it and that he will call every once in a while up until the morning of "I" day. He said they really liked hearing that.
4th He asked where he was weak in the application. The reply was: There were no weak areas, he application was very competative they just filled the MOC's spot with an LOA.
5th. He asked if he would need to take his ACT again. The answer was "No" his scores were already above where they wanted them.
Advise from the Academy advisor: Do well in college, maintain "A's" and with the NROTC on his application as a reapplicant it will only make him an even stronger candidates not to mention another nomination opp. from the NROTC Unit Captan.

From the start he understood the chances and gave it his all and in the end he is fine...only more determined!!! He said he feel very honored to have the NROTC and is already in touch with his Unit freshman advisor. The LT advisor already knows he is reapplying and he is onboard with his desire to get into the Academy.

If you are starting this and it is your first time remember this is very competative. In the end if you get in great but if you don't it will be okay.

For parents staying out of it and not knowing the journey made it easy for us to accept. In short, he took it well so no worries.

Hope this helps.
