Hey guys! I’m neurotic, so please help me get an idea! This is what I’ve calculated that I will more than likely get.
3.86 UW GPA
4.17 (out of 4.8) W GPA
School does NOT rank.
Considered valedictorian, but it’s kind of pointless since we have 40 out of 400 kids lmao (anyone over a 4.0)
I was informed that this is top 10%
Anticipated 31-33 on the ACT
Anticipated 1440-1480 on the SAT
Based off PSAT and PACT scores
ECs:
President, Founder of the Political Science Club
President, Founder of FBLA
VP of Student Council (entire school - may run for President senior year)
Core Student Body Leader
Student Ambassador for new students entering from OOS and foreign exchange
Member of my school district’s board
OMUN (running for office)
Stock Club
NHS
Do I stand a chance for these schools? Please don’t comment things like, “Well, how do you know you will get these scores?” These are just anticipated, so I may score higher or lower. It’s just an educated guesstimate.
Are you a sophomore or junior? I would put off deciding which school you should ED at for a number of reasons, not the least of which is waiting on the latest updated stats for the schools, right before you apply. Vandy score ranges may be a bit too high for the scores you are anticipating to make it a good ED choice, but of course you need actual, final scores to make such a judgment.
Spend more time thinking about the safeties/matches you want to apply to as well if ED doesn’t work out.
Also, run the Net Price Calculator with your parents for Vandy/Emory to see if you can afford it.
Look on the CC page for Vandy/Emory to see what Merit scholarships are given, if any and how you compare.
@nick3162 My school is very rich, and mostly white. We actually ranked as the most “obnoxiously rich” suburb of my city. It’s a pretty large district. I would say that the top 20% of my class compete against each other, but for the rest, it is either they do not care about their grades THAT much, or they are relatively smart, but do not compete with others. In essence, competitive at the top, but not so much in the mid and low ranges. A majority of the APs at my school are VERY rigorous. On the other hand, the CP classes tend to not be very hard.
That’s a pretty stark contrast to my school environment. I mainly embrace the lack of rigor in classwork (as it leaves me more time for EC involvement), but even to that end, there’s a limited number of clubs and activities tailored to motivated students.
I’m sure you’ll find success wherever you end up in college (most likely being a top one as far as I can tell at this point in time).
@ab2002 Hello, I am a graduating senior who has just finished receiving my decision letters. I did not apply to Vandy; however, I did get accepted to Emory and will likely be attending. Statistics for the class of '22 were just recently released to us and the average UW GPA was a 3.91 and the median SAT score was a 1500. There was also a 16% increase in the number of applicants this year and the acceptance rate dropped to 18% (so keep in mind it is getting more competitive).
Personally speaking, though, I would say you have a pretty solid chance at acceptance (especially if you apply ED). Your anticipated profile is pretty comparable to those I’ve talked to who are also enrolling in the class of '22.
I will say, though, that Emory focuses a lot on EC’s; I made a 1340 on my SAT and a 30 on my ACT (4.0 UW; 4.34 W); I am pretty below the mark score-wise, but my EC’s were strong. If you write exceptional essays and swoon them with your involvement, you’ll be just fine.
Also, I can pretty much promise you that, with your stats, you will get accepted into a notable institution. What is your intended major of study? Do you have an idea yet?
Also, if you have any specific questions for me, feel free to pm as you see fit.
