Vandy ED I, Michigan EA I, Emory ED II please

Vanderbilt has over 24 thousand applicants last year I think. too lazy to look it up at the moment, but when my eldest applied in 2005, there were just over 11 thousand. That means that admission to Vandy is now a reach admission for almost anyone…not as hard as a top Ivy but only a little easier than Duke by odds alone. Emory’s admission rates are still easier to conquer, but that could also tighten up or stay the same in two years’ time. Lots of students get big bumps up in their testing when they get closer to the age of 18, but be rigorous to give yourself the best score possible. Not just for Vandy but for your other applications.
Lastly, consider getting a paying job and stay involved with what you are doing already. Get the Harry Bauld essay book and start thinking about your personal statements. If you can afford it, apply ED. And best of luck. If Vandy is what you want, hope it works out but Vandy is not the only great place to go to college, so make sure you appreciate and you court other colleges and spread the love.

Because you are highly motivated and a sophomore and because Vandy does have ED options, you have plenty of time to work on your standardized testing. Get the Red ACT book and do every test. Do a couple open booked and study the answers after you go section by section. Do the rest in timed hours just like exam administration. If you can’t budge your ACT, start in on the Blue Books for the SAT.
