Just thought I'd share that I was looking at UT's admissions website today and noticed they just updated it. They declared they will have a 400 person wait-list (up from last years I think?) and that their new target date for all decisions is now late February..... The tension is getting worse!!

is this including transfers??

can you explain this better?

the waitlist is only for fall freshman of 2010. and so is the deadline i think

what’s your worry??

you should note that for the entering freshman class of fall 2009:
-31,362 applied
-14,213 were admitted
- 7,243 enrolled.

more or so, each step gradually decreased by half… i may be wrong, since i don’t know how waitlists work, but i’d say if you are waitlisted, you’re pretty much in.

Zoe,

What was the previous target date? The end of February is what my son heard from UT admissions (verbally at an event) back in September.

Originally the website said early March (supposedly March 15th?)

how do you know if your on the waitlist? also i talked to the counselor for the Dallas area like in december and he told me i would know early march? so is their really a target date change?

thanks for the heads up OP so we will hear the decisions in week and a half! im so excited!

Late Feb/ early March are essentially the same -.-

True- it was just that they specifically changed it on Feb. 16th. from saying “Early March” to “Late February”. It scares me though that there haven’t been many outside top 10 acceptances with the deadline so close… Its going to be an intense week!

Oh and pierrechn I think it will show up under your status check page as waitlist rather than cap or acceptance? I’m not positive though…

“more or so, each step gradually decreased by half… i may be wrong, since i don’t know how waitlists work, but i’d say if you are waitlisted, you’re pretty much in.”

All depends on UT’s goal. They will admit a huge number, knowing, based on history approximately half accept. If they get a higher than usual number of students accepting, then they will not draw on the waitlist. Just because they offer 14,000 admittance, in no way means they are prepared to admit 14,000.

I am curious where the 7,000 who were accepted but didn’t enroll ended up going to school!

Oh, so they’re sending out decisions earlier than planned?

everybody will hear back by Friday at the latest

My daughter applied on December 1st, is in the top 11% from a Texas school and was told she would know something by March 15th. Well, we got her decision of acceptance earlier this week, on the website. So, good luck to those who have been anxiously waiting like we have!

Do out-of-state students typically hear back later than others?

some out of state students have already heard back…the ones with high stats, scores, class rank, etc.

I kind of fit the high stat, score, class rank, etc. category but have yet to hear. I didn’t apply for honors or anything though

Yeah, it’s definitely not based on high scores/rank. I fit that category too, and I haven’t got my decision yet.
