Just notified that the state of Indiana is reviewing FAFSA

We live in Ohio. ND is the only Indiana school my son applied to. He was wait listed. Would ND be reviewing FA applications for everyone on the wait list? Those who are going to be offered spots if they become available? Are students ever offered from the wait list before May 1? The common data set suggests that there are only a handful of students offered from the wait list in a given year.

Hi!
Also on the waitlist. Did the notification come fro the state or from Notre Dame? My understanding was that NDD uses the CSS Profile…
Interesting!

It came from the state. We also submitted the CSS Profile, but the FAFSA would be used for Pell Grant eligibility. The State website says he’s not eligible for state grants unless we correct the FAFSA to indicate he is an Indiana resident. Well, we live in Ohio, so that’s not really correctable.

I am not clear why the FAFSA would be forwarded to the state. We had a similar situation with Kentucky asking for verification after he applied to UK. In that case, it was a third party “clearing house.”

@greeninohio Ahh… Do you already know that you are eligible for a Pell? We are not.
Fingers crossed for your student and ours!

@greeninohio As for the waitlist itself, I think last year they took 67 off the waitlist starting on May 6. They may be getting their waitlisted ducks in a row, however!

Yes. We are Pell eligible. I used the IRS retrieval tool to correct the FAFSA and had to correct it three times to get it to every school he applied to. He was set to go to Northwestern. I would probably prefer ND since he wouldn’t have to drive through Chicago to get there.

I called ND as we received this too. They said to disregard. They also asked me to send them the email to see if it was SPAM. They had my email and D’s email. Weird!

Waitlisted students still receive Financial aid, but like others in this thread have mentioned, I don’t think the email you received is indicative of any sort of decision. Best of luck!

We got the e-mail from the state of Indiana too. Daughter had been admitted to Purdue but already declined her acceptance and scholarship when we paid her enrollment deposit elsewhere. Seemed weird because we aren’t Indiana residents and we didn’t qualify for any financial aid at Purdue except for the unsubsidized loan.
