I am applying to a few school top tier school some might say. Not HADES but up there. some might include groton middlesex l'vile st goerge st andrews peddie george school the hill. not saying which ones out of those im applying to. well my questions are:
Is a longer interview better?
Will poor ssat scores like 60s and below ruin your chances of getting into a school?
How do you make your essays great?

if you`re below 60 go for H,G and the Saints.

I believe that a longer interview is better, since the admissions officer will get to know you better and stuff…

Usually for SSAT’s you want to aim for above 85%

Make sure your essays ‘stand out’. Don’t write too much - it gets boring. Get someone to read it and ask them if they think it’s interesting. A tactic you can try is first identify what interesting points about you that you want them to know about, and then match those points with the appropriate essay questions.

Just wondering- what are H, G and the Saints?

I agree with vivsters.

The 1st letter of the schools you`re considering. The ones I listed are your best bet.

There’s no way of knowing if the SSAT score will limit your ability to attend any of these schools. If this were the case, admissions officers would only request scores and call it a day. There are multiple factors which are considered in admissions process so any advice you receive should be taken w/ a grain of salt. Apply to all and hope for the best.

With all due respect, I disagree. Scores under 60 will not let the average joe in GLADCHEMMS. There are other great tier 2 schools that will benefit this kind of applicant.

No one can say definitively how a score of ~60 would translate or know if the OP would be viewed as an “average joe” for that matter. There may be extenuating factors or hooks that would make the applicant an acceptable candidate in the context of the current incoming class. Not all students in the GLADwhatever applicant pool may test well. This is why admissions officers exist. @OP: I stand by my original suggestion, apply to the schools you most desire knowing that it’s a relative crapshoot for all. There are plenty 99%ers that receive no acceptances. Good luck.

it’s not impossible to get in a good school with a ~60 percentile. mkatz or mpicz (forgot, sorry) from 2 years back got into SPS with a score in that range. he retook and sent those new scores (~90) to the other schools (and forgot SPS) and SPS was the only place that accepted him, though it was the only school with the old score (60th percentile)

if you’re a great applicant or have a hook (mpicz/katz was URM and athlete) it might be ok, but it’d be best if you retook or maybe set your sights a little lower, imho. best of luck!
