Are there single dorms in SLO if I wish not to live with a mate?

In short, no. The best you will get is a double during your freshman year. If you're extremely unlucky, you will end up in a quad, but that's rare. If you're looking for personal space, aim for a north mountain (if you can score one). After that is Yosemite, then Sierra Madre, and then the red bricks. You will be sharing your room, but you will have more space. And hey, I didn't think I would like having a roommate, but mine were/are awesome, and I had a great year with him. We still keep in touch. Your sophomore year, if you live in Cerro Vista, you get your own room in a 4 person apartment, but that's not an option freshman year. If you live off campus, of course, you will probably be able to find a room for yourself. If you're interested, look up Stenner Glen or Mustang Village. Those are a couple of the off campus "dorms." However, I would highly recommend living on campus your freshman year.

Are the dorms in Yosemite and Sierra Madre guaranteed? or is it based on a lottery? Are the Cerro Vista apartments for sophomores guaranteed?

No. You can choose First Year Connection (FYC) or Living/Learning Program (LLP) when you apply for housing. I believe Housing is guaranteed for all first years, but im not completely sure. They will fit you in as best they can, but no guarantees. It helps if you apply for the Honors program. I would recommend doing so (its awesome, and well worth your time). That way, if you sign up for Honors Housing, you will almost definitely get into Yosemite.

Cerro Vista is done by lottery. Towards the end of my freshman year, people in my dorm started forming groups of four to apply to Cerro Vista together. That way, if one person gets in, the rest do as well. At least, we're pretty sure thats how it works. I decided to go with two neighbors and one of their friends from across the dorm. It has worked out really well. But yeah, none of us made it in the lottery, so we were put on the waiting list at around 150. We eventually made it in. The list moves fairly quicky....so if you're low on the wait list, take heart. There is still hope. I would keep an eye out for off campus housing as well, though.

Notification could be as long a wait as to the end of March... Talked with an admissions officer yesterday. Keep checking your MyPoly page, but I wouldn't worry about hitting it until Feb. Also depends on your major! Godzilla, you are in one sweet dorm! Cerro is awesome, enjoy your stay.

When do we get our MyPoly account?

You get your my.calpoly.edu official account sometime after you fill out and return your SIR (Student Intent to Register). You get your SIR when you recieve a conditional acceptance. It has to do with setting up your Central Unix account.
