Just wondering about CU

Well I see that to get into CU you need around a 3.4 to get accepted as a freshman.. but after talking to many admissions counselors and reading their competitive GPA for transfers it seems that a 2.5 is competitive. This makes me happy because I am above a 2.5 and CU is my first choice school. It looks amazing and I can't wait to come out to CU, but I am just wondering why the transfer gpa is so much lower?

I don't know any statistical reasons, but my guess is because the retention rate for out-of-state freshmen is lower than it is for in-state freshman.

My D said that last year (when she was a freshman), there were a lot of kids from California and Texas (among many other states). However, a decent number transfer to schools closer to home after the first year.

Since CU wants to maintain a fairly high out-of-state percentage of students because they pay much higher tuition, they are anxious to accept out-of-state transfer students to make up the loss of last year's freshmen.

Good luck in transfering to CU. My D loves it there, and my S will go there next fall.
