Ok, basically, I started college at CU Boulder. My freshman Year consisted of 6 f's, a W and a D. My head was in the clouds and I had no idea what I was doing. Since then, I took sophmore year in night classes, got a's and b's. Came back to california where I am from, and took a semester of classes at a ccc. Next semester I got W's because I broke my collar bone and had to get surgery. Anyway, in the midst of that, I "saw the light" or whatever and am very interested in my education now. I went back to CU and got a 3.8 last semester, and a 3.5 for the year. Just the last semester brought my gpa from 1.7 to 2.25. The thing is, my ccc grades are not calculated into that, and my gpa from about 15 credits there is around 3.2. So Im guessing my cumulative is around 2.5
anyway, I am dying to transfer to UCSD in Management Science from a ccc, and was just wondering the chances of transfering given I get a gpa around 3.5+ over the next two semesters here. I will be retaking some of my failed classes so that will benefit my gpa as well, and Im sure some classes will not transfer from Colorado which may help as well, assuming the grade doesnt transfer (although they will prob. be counted as electives)
I Know if I want to do this I have to go about it perfectly, so as not to exceed 90 credits, but I am up for the challenge as long as it is possible.
Anyway, any advice/encouragement will be appreciated. I have been researching this like crazy, and reading the forums, but just decided to post my specific situation...... Thank you.

When you apply to UCSD, omit the grades from CU. Retake any other necessary classes at a CCC. I honestly guarantee you that you will not get in if you submit your CU grades.

Ya, That is a good idea. Can I do that though? Just not send over my trascripts from CU. I havent told the ccc that I took classes at cu, but would either college ever check? or can I just start over with a clean slate?

They won't check.

Cool...thanks.

they do check... and when the adcom see's your grades coupled with the fact that you are simply omitting grades from another university you will definitely be rejected. Omitting grades will hurt your admissions more adversely then if you were to write an addendum explaining you academic epiphany.

If I Dont omit my grades from CU, do you guys think I still have a shot at the transfer?

And If I do the tag program, and get up to a 2.8 GPA, arent I guaranteed admission?

Anyone have any insight on this?

Are you planning on signing a TAG agreement? I worked my way back from a 2.2GPA to a 3.0 over 3 semesters at CCC. Now I am proud to say I am transferring to UCSD in the Fall. It can be done if you want it bad enough.

How many units have you taken total (at all schools including Boulder)?

And btw wow... 6 F's? Have you looked into getting those changed to W's? What happened?

I am planning on signing a TAG agreement. Total, I think I I have about 57 credits, with a 2.5 gpa combined from both colleges.

I have decided this is what I really want to do, and am willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish my goal. I would like to later go to USC to get an MBA after couple years of experience after USCD..... I am hoping that is possible.

What happened was my Girlfiriend broke up with me, and I then decided I didnt like being on anti depressants, so I stopped cold turkey. I didnt need to be on them in the first place, so I am fine now... and have been doing well in school since then. But at the time, i got pretty depressed, and didnt even go to class. This happened toward the end of fall semester.

I wish I could get the f's changed to W's, but I dont think there is much I can do. Plus, I just had my transcripts sent to the community college, so I think I am stuck with those grades. What I am wondering however, is if maybe some of the non transferable classes will be still be counted in my gpa. Does my exact gpa from another school transfer to the Cal. Community college?

Also, say I do manage to get a 2.8 and get into UCSD, and graduate with a 3.0. When applying to business school, is there any chance they will see that I did very well after freshman year, or will they just look at my overall gpa?

I am really glad to hear you overcame your depression. I know personally how rough that can be.

To answer your question - when you figure your GPA, do not include any classes that do not transfer. If you are unsure of which ones do, check: http://www.assist.org. You will still have to put the ones that do not transfer on your UC application but the grades do not matter. Your exact GPA does not transfer from CC to CC. Your actual GPA (according to UC) is the GPA of all "transferable" coursework from all institutions. Don't know how Boulder will play into that until your CC reviews your transcripts from there.

Sounds like TAG is your best bet. Remember TAG agreements have to be signed at least a year prior to transfer.

For grad school I would recommend getting a job at a company in L.A. after getting your BS that pays for an MBA. It's easier to get in and of course saves $$$.

This website is a great resource and there is tremendous knowledge here. However, do your own research. Never take anyone's word on this board as fact. Use their advise as a guide and find the answers for yourself.

You can do this if you want it bad enough!

Thank you so much for the help....... That is really motivating. I will continue to do reasearch, and will update incase anyone is interested.

Thanks again!

One more question:
Would it be worth it to track down sylabus's for some of the classes I got good grades in that have different names, however are similar to other transferable courses?
Or should I just let the cc review my transcripts and do their thing......

You mean for your classes at Boulder? Transferring classes from schools outside of Cali can be a crap shoot. I'd just wait and see what happens. I transfered from Moorpark to San Diego City College. I had to meet with a councilor @ City before some classes from Moorpark would even be considered as equivalent to San Diego ones. This happens a lot with Math classes.

Don't listen to dorxy. Yes, UCSD may not check your grades at CU, but it'll be a lot more painful if you you don't send your transcripts, get admitted, and then get kicked out for fraud. And you won't be able to attend a UC ever.

I say fraud because on the UC application, you agree to submit all college work done.

Getting into UCSD with your grades is VERY possible. I would retake you F graded classes at a JC and apply with your strong grade trend. Do the TAG with UCSD if you can.

Cool, thanks.
That is what Im going to do. I already had my transcripts sent. It would always be riding my back anyway if I had to worry about getting kicked out throughout college.

evo9:

Have you inquired about Academic Renewals at CU? Or notations on your transcript indicating that you're retaking the class? The grades and units from those classes will be discounted from your GPA and the number of units you've thus far completed, and even though you'll still have to report these on your UC application as "AR" and "R", I think it'll "look" better than if you just left it as they were.

Can I still do this even though I already had my transcripts sent to my ccc? I mean, if I do get them to take those classes off, can I have my transcripts sent again, or am I stuck since my comunity college will already be getting my current transcrips?

Well, I just found out that there is no possibility of transfering to UCSD through the TAG program......If I were to complete the requirements, I would exceed the 90 credit maximum. Bummer............
