Just Wondering

The offer stands. :)

Besides, it's not pontificating if it's true! ;)

Hi I'm back. To anyone who thought all the political talk scared me away it didn't. I've just been out of town. I don't really have anything to post so I will just let the political war that seems to have errupted rage on. :)

hey, hecticlife -- glad you are back and weren't scared off ...you've got a good attitude, and it will serve you well...

This is the period of time at USNA that they call the "Dark Ages"... doom and gloom...study,study, study...cold weather and snow, etc, etc...

It's also the "dark ages" for some of us here -- not much is happening, we have to create drama on these threads, etc, etc,....

All of this reminds me of how I recently heard someone describe a good marriage ....

In a GOOD marriage, the partners have to "create" squabbles and bickerings over small things....because they agree on all the major things... and if all these "small" things are the only things they differ on, then, what a strong marriage they have!

There are many opinions here in this forum. And as long as we all hold open minds and hearts, then the discourse is productive. When some people like to voice their opinions, and not tolerate opposing opinions, that is when the whole thing falls apart.

Keep focused, everybody... bottom line...all we really want to say is "GO NAVY!"

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions." "Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great." - Mark Twain

Good luck to you HecticLife! Go do good things!

zaphod,
george bush, the "war president," as he likes to call himself these days, claims that his administration has made "The world is a safer place." If this is indeed true, can you list three countries in which you can stroll through a major airport wearing your "Bush-Cheney baseball cap"?
usna09mom

Sure!

Great Britain
France
Spain
Australia
New Zealand
Russia
Italy
Swizerland
Israel
Germany

Oh, and most importantly, BAGHDAD! :D

You're point?

Trust me. It was far more dangerous for me to wear it in Boston. Says it all, doesn't it?

Oh, and he hasn't called himself the "war president", the media has called him that, and the Left has called him that because he's doing what needs to be done and they utterly despise him for it.

You know, the same left that was bemoaning that 9/11 didn't happen on Clinton's watch so that he would have had the chance to be Presidential.

"Sure!

Great Britain
France
Spain
Australia
New Zealand
Russia
Italy
Swizerland (are you drinking scotch with a swizzle stick?)
Israel
Germany"
-zaphod

You are DREAMING if you think the countries you listed (except Israel) support the United States. France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain??? Are you listing countries that competed in the Winter Olympics? That's the PROBLEM--we are seen as pariahs by the rest of the world.

You didn't ask me if they supported us. You asked me to name one country I'd feel safe wearing my Bush/Cheney hat through, and I rattled off a bunch.

If you can't ask your own question, it's not my problem.

And I could not possibly care less what the rest of the world thinks about anything. Last time we relied on them to do anything constructive, we ended up with WWII, so you'll forgive me if, after 17 worthless resolutions in the equally-worthless UN, we don't decide to kick butt and take names on our own terms.

We are seen as a pariah, eh? Fine. Next time a tsunami wipes out a few hundred thousand people, or an epidemic sweeps through Africa, or the Russians threaten Europe, then the whole world can go and ask Luxembourg for help. We'll stay home.

We're seen as a pariah because we are doing what the rest of the planet is too full of tyrants and cowards to do. We are hated because, in only 230 years we've done more than the rest of the world has in the 5,000 previous years.

It's called JEALOUSY.

You're off to a great start there! (I'm a lax goalie lol)

Good luck Hecticlife!

Lacrosse is such a bizarre sport. I'd never seen it until I got to NAPS.

Fastest game on two feet! :D

zaphod,
I would not recommend wearing your Bush-Cheney baseball cap on the Tube in London, even though GB is part of the coalition.

Oh?

Are you suggesting that the anti-war types would physically assault or harass me for simply having a different opinion?

How "tollerant", "peace-loving", and "enlightened" of them!

You guys on the left are so much fun to laugh at! You make it SO easy! Really! :D :D :D

zaphod,
mary poppins might poke you with her umbrella! seriously ;)

As long as she teaches me how to fly, a young Julie Andrews can have her way with me! ;)

Z-man: If you're impressed with LAX being the "Fastest game on two feet! " ---you need to see an ice hockey game --- it's the fastest game on two BLADES!! :)

Hockey?

Isn't that the sport with 5 minutes of play for every 20 minutes of childish fighting?

Lax takes the good parts of hockey, throws them in with some football and some other stuff and makes a nice blend of pure sport...

Wheelah,

Thanks for posting. Zaphod covered most of my arguments, but I thought I'd jump in anyway. You say "no one has the right to say "go away and don't come back until you have something helpful to say".

Actually, I do have the right to say that. I said it and it's said. I'm not arguing with oneironauts political views or his writing. I'm chastizing him for being negative and unhelpful to someone who asked for help.

I guess I come across sometimes as a crabby old so and so, but I usually try to be helpful or stay out of these things.

If Bush/Cheney had their way, they might consider reinstating the Anti-Sedition Act. (Can't wait for the 2006 Congressional races!)

My question is: Which countries have a singular political party where political discourse is banned? Communist/totalitarian regimes: Cuba (z-man), China, North Korea. Acting like a dogmatic tyrant and stifling personal expression is downright un-American!

Did I mention that I don't like bullies?

Oh, spare me!

So now telling someone who is acting like an idiot to shut up is akin to Castro's prisons, where people rot for years for not toeing the line?

You people on the Left seriously need to get a sense of proportion.

Oh, and I wish they WOULD bring back the sedition acts! What Gore and Clinton and Kennedy and Durban and Reid have done from the very beginning can only be described as providing comfort to the enemy. Lincoln imprisoned people like that, and everyone LOVES him.

It's one thing to have an opposing view. It's quite another to actually work so that your country FAILS and LOSES in a WAR. These people crossed that line LONG ago, and haven't taken their foot off the gas pedal since.

Traitors every one of them, and deserving of our scorn, derision, and being chained in a smelly sewer for 15 years.

And please don't give me the comparison between that and Castro. Castro imprisons people because they dare to demand their rights. We're talking about people who ABUSE theirs to the detriment of their country.
