Kalamazoo vs. Lewis and Clark

I'm trying to decide among a few safety schools: University of Washington, Lewis & Clark College in Oregon, and Kalamazoo in Michigan. I will definitely apply to UW as a safety school, and I want to apply to one more. Could someone tell me what are the main differences between Kalamazoo and Lewis and Clark? I've done a bit of research and they both seem to be quite similar in terms of academics, size, and study abroad opportunities. What are the major differences between the schools? Any info that will help me decide between the two would be awesome.

Thanks everyone!

Lewis and Clark is better....especially if you are interested in Law.

and its in portland also, which is an awesome city.

lewis and clark is one of my safeties as well.

I'm surprised you have done your research and still say that KZoo and Lewis & Clark are similar academically. They have very different curriculum approaches.

Kalamazoo's unique K-Plan emphasizes experiential education. Students alternate between time on campus in regular classes and time in internships and study abroad. That's very different from Lewis & Clark's very traditional and standard academic curriculum approach. Be sure you understand what the K-Plan involves as that might influence your decision. (<a href="http://www.kzoo.edu/about_kplan.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.kzoo.edu/about_kplan.htm</a>)</p>

I would not term either better academically or better for law school. They both have decent academics, and both can get you into law school. They do both tend to attract the same type of students - students with a bit of quirkiness, but L&C pulls heavily from the west coast while K-Zoo pulls from the midwest and, to a certain extent, the east coast.

One other factor you might want to consider is distance from home. Assuming you are from the Pacific Northwest since you are using UW as a safety, it might be nice to have a safety that is outside of the PNW if experiencing another part of the country would be a plus. Alternatively, if you think you'd like to stay close to home, go for L&C.

And, of course, there's nothing wrong with having more than two safeties on your list either. :)

Just came upon this thread...My D applied to both, L&C and K Zoo. Got into K Zoo easily, waitlisted at L&C. Her grades are not top notch, but she has an interesting mix of attributes that LAC tend to like. They said they accept many early action, so would have been far better off applying at that time. We loved K Zoo, and their plan. Nice town, though not Portland! The financial aid was not as good as some other places, so in the end, out of the running.

Great Lakes Mom-- Could you elaborate on your last sentence? My S is a rising soph at K College and received a nice merit scholarship, but we didn't apply for financial aid. A friend's D. is a rising senior and very interested in K, but will need a substantial aid package that isn't loan heavy. She has a 4.0 unweighted GPA, 28 ACT (retaking Oct). Which schools were you referring to that offered better aid to your D? I think friend's D would like to stay in the Midwest, but I'm passing on any/all info to them at this point...thanks!
