Which is a better school overall? Which one will better prepare me for jobs all over the country? I want to be able to work anywhere, not just in Kansas or Wisconsin after graduation.

Why do you feel that you need to choose between these two now? Have you already been admitted by both? Are you starting in January?

Both of these are fine institutions. Go ahead and apply to both. Wait to find out if you are admitted, and what your financial aid packages are like. Pay visits to both if you can. Contact the Career Center at each campus, and ask about job placement in the field(s) you are interested in. Then if both admit you and both are equally affordable, make a decision.

Are you planning the same major at either? What kind of job do you want? You need to be far more specific to get better advice.

Are you in-state at either of them? Broadly speaking, I don’t think paying OOS tuition rates at one of those schools, and forgoing the other as an in-state alternative, would make sense.

Lawrence is a better college town than LaCrosse. With no disrespect to UW LaCrosse, which a decent directional, I would say that KU, a flagship institution, offers more all around. It is three times as large. It’s going to have, in general, more program offerings and better facilities. However, knowing nothing about your financial needs or academic interests, I can’t say which one would be better for you personally. The choice seems odd, though, as these two schools are not really comparable. Why those two schools? Are you in-state for either one?

If you can afford both and are considering KU because admission to your flagship is unlikely, I’d go there.

As a KU grad, I can tell you that it is a great college town. Lots to do for everyone, whether you are a party person or an intellectual. Beautiful campus as well.

And it didn’t stop me from working anywhere. I went to California for a few years after graduation, and am now on the East Coast.
