So I signed up for the Kaplan SAT Prep Course (I think it's the classroom one) and after I've already payed and everything, I searched whether it's a good sat prep and alot of people said it wasn't so I'm not sure. Can anyone tell me about it if you've already taken the classes and if it helped you at all? I'm a junior and have never taken the sat before so I'm hoping this will help me do well when I take it in May. I'm going for a 2100-2200 score if possible.

I just took an SAT prep course, although not Kaplan, I took it with Summit. I have to say, it was an enormous waste of money. Whenever I was in the class I felt like I was wasting my time. The teachers are so stupid, I was better at Math than our math teacher, and the English teacher was ok, just weird. They target the class towards people going for 1600-1800, so they won’t even be helpful to you. Like, we had a whole class discussing how many questions to skip. You’d be better off trying to get a refund, I wish I had. The only thing I learned were a few grammar rules, but I could have easily learned those in 30 min by studying by myself.

I have to say, I disagree. I took Kaplan’s Classroom SAT course over the summer, and found it helpful. It helped me raise my PSAT from a 209 to a 224 (not a huge jump, but significant for NMS). Additionally, it put my parents’ minds at rest as to whether or now we’d done everything we could to prepare me. Just taking four practice tests and having access to lots of practice materials was very helpful. The teacher was really smart - a Middlebury grad and college counselor. The way the program is structured, for each topic, there are three levels of questions. The teacher divides the class into groups and assigns them questions based on how they’ve performed on past tests. I felt like some of the stuff was busywork, but it made me more comfortable with the test. Now, that same type of practice might be available just from using a study guide, but the course helped synthesize the information, provided tons of resources (although the online center was hard to use), and really made me comfortable with the test. I would say that, especially if you’ve already paid for it, you should try it. It will at least put your mind at rest that you did everything you could to increase your score.
