My daughter is a rising hs senior and is interested in Kansas City Art Institute to major in Photography/New Media. We live in Texas and have visited the school a couple times and my d is currently attending the pre-college progam there. I'd love to hear any feedback on KCAI admissions, financial aid, student life, etc. My d's main reason for considering KCAI are: small school in urban environment and she felt "at home" when we visited. My reasons for supporting her interest: relatively close to our home in Texas, and availability of non-need based financial aid. All comments positive or negative are appreciated.

DNK's Dad,
My d. looked at KCAI and MICA for summer pre-college and went with MICA. KCAI's pre-college offerings were less guaranteed (although they seemed fine) and she got into the courses at MICA that she wanted (Drawing/Illustration and Raku). She was accepted at both.

D. interviewed with KCAI reps at 2006 Portfolio Review in Atlanta, and they seemed to be very knowledgable and helpful. We are planning a road trip to KCAI in the fall, so if you find out more info, please post about your college visits, or send to me directly.

D. likes MICA (except the cost) but I want her to be sure before we move to college applications. Spending multiple weeks at a school is a good way to see if they have their act together...

Thanks
S.Dad

This is slightly off topic but I also live in Texas and my daighter - a junior - is also in Kansas City now at the pre-college program in painting. She is loving it. Already told me that's where she wants to got o school - of course she really has not looked at other schools much.

mmcklc- tried to send an e-mail. Perhaps we will meet Wed in KC

Yes, please people post your thoughts. D really loved the rep at NPD. And strangely enough, they just called her today(unfortunately she is out of town) to see if she had any questions before applying, then I see this post.
