KCL International Acceptance Chances

Hi my name is Jordan and I’m a senior looking to apply to King’s College London. I am trying to apply for film studies as an international student considering I live in the US. I want to know how I will be considered as a candidate. I heard that UK universities don’t accept GPA but they accept test scores and accept you based on the courses you take towards your major. I am working on making my personal statement very good, I have above average SAT scores, and I have taken many film related courses in my curriculum. I also plan to shoot and send in a short film with my application. I’m not sure what else I would need to ensure my acceptance. Any suggestions?

For Film at KCL you need either 5,5,4 on 3 APs or 3 subject tests with scores of 650+ and an ACT of 28 or SAT of 1900, and they don’t specify any preferred subjects for the tests. Afaik, they don’t accept supplemental materials, but you can mention it in your PS. Really, assuming you have the grades, it will be down to your Rec and your PS. Be sure to read the details of the course before you finalize your PS: you want to be sure that what you are talking about fits with the actual course you want to take.

Thank you for the clarification. I really should revise my personal statement. The 3 subject tests are something that I need to take again to get higher. But other than that the personal statement plays a big role with international applicants?

The PS plays an equal role for domestic and international students. Have you done any homework on writing them? In the UK, it is your exam scores (test scores) that matter. GPA is secondary. Your personal statement needs to focus on your subject, not your personal life etc.

“I also plan to shoot and send in a short film with my application.”

You know it’s not a film making course, don’t you? It’s criticism and theory.

“they don’t specify any preferred subjects for the tests.”
They ask for one to be in an essay based humanities subject.
