Keep a junior on track :O!

*Colleges: *
-Bowdoin
-Amherst
-UMich
-University of Washington - Seattle
-Hamilton
-American University

GPA: 4.0 unweighted/4.5 weighted

Rank: 6/326 approx. Will be going up this year, I hope.

SATI: Haven't taken these yet. My practice scores as of 2 months ago suggest a 2050, but I'm working my way towards a 2150.

SATII: Will most definitely be taking USH and another random one.

Classes: 10 honors classes by the end of this year, Dual-Enrollment Microeconomics, APUSH

Tentative Senior Schedule:
-2 Classes at Lehigh University
-AP Lit and Comp
-AP Prob and Stat
-Spanish IV
-Random Elective
-Advanced Chemistry
-Dual Enrollment World History

ECs:
*-Scholastic Scrimmage/i: JV Captain, finished 2nd in district. Varsity captain senior year.
*-Gay-Straight Alliance/i: Vice-President. Helped set up the club as this was its first year. Set up an website for closeted members of the LBGTQ community to open up without compromising their identities. In the works of setting up a network of GSAs in the area.
*-Amnesty International/Human Rights Club /i: In the process of founding the club with my best friend and APUSH/Model UN advisor. We plan on doing some big things :)
*-Student Focus Group/i: Selected by the new principle to improve our school. I'm very heavily involved in this.
*-Model UN /i: I'm not the best delegate, as I'm a pretty shy and quiet person, but I love the club.
*-NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish National Honor Society/i: I'm planning on taking an officer position in NHS or SNHS :)
-Random conglomerate of clubs that I will probably not involve and just joined to see what they were like
-I played flute for 6 years

Work/Volunteering/Summer:
*-Hospital Volunteer/i: Clocked 40 hours
-Will volunteer this summer at a local law firm specializing in providing services to low-income people in the area
-Will be picking up a job
-Will be taking 2-3 classes at Lehigh University (probably Calculus, Ethnics, and Intro to Psych)

*Recommendations: *
-I definitely will be asking my APUSH teacher for one, and It will probably be very, very good as I'm very close to him and I've consistently done extremely well in all of his classes (he was my Honors American Studies II and Microeconomics teacher as well)
-2nd rec is a tossup between my GSA advisor, Scholastic Scrimmage Advisor/Honors American I teacher (who is a very animated person and does interviews for Hamilton, haha), and my lovely Honors English teacher. They'll probably all be great as well.
-Counselor recommendation will probably be great, she likes me, knows I'm a driven student, and I visit her quite often :)

*Essays: * They'll probably be very good, my voice is extremely strong when I write. I'll probably write about how GSA has molded me into someone who really wants to make a strong impact in the community.

Hooks: Low-income (<40k), 1st generation to attend college, daughter of Vietnam War refugees, craptastic school, I'm not a math asian?
*Killers: * I'm asian :(

*Prospective Majors: * International Relations/Studies, Psychology, Linguistics, History, Management, Law

Note for my terrible amount of AP classes: Currently, my school offers only 4, they'll be adding a few more next year. It's really impossible to take more than 2 without killing yourself as we have block scheduling so in the first half of the year we have our AP classes and twice the work. I'm taking the hardest classes I can :)

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate it. I'd love suggestions for other colleges to look at as well!

Bump :frowning:
10char

I don’t know much about the other schools, but you have a good shot at UMich and American. Plenty of people have gotten into American from my school district, and their stats didn’t seem as nice as yours.

Thank you! ^^

I’d like to add Pomona to my list but I can’t edit anymore :(

A lot of underclassmen seem to be making chance threads today, haha. Bump :)

I honestly think you have good chances of getting into all of those schools! Maintain your good Gpa, do as well as you hope on your SATs, and continue to be passionate about your ECs.
You are definitely on the right track! good luck!

chance me back please

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/1074681-chance-me-brown.html</a></p>

Thank you so much! That really boosted my morale :)

Bump…:(

Bump…!

I guess no one wants to chance me :(

did you stop volunteering at the hospital? because if you only did 40 hrs i don’t think you should include it…40 hrs isn’t really anything

I did, mainly because of time constraints, and I probably won’t include it.

good, because if you include it, it just looks like you’re making a laundry list of everything you’ve ever done which is really really bad

Any chance I could be chance’d? :)

as of right now, and based on your sat score, i’d say amherst and maybe bowdoin are reaches

Thank you :)

I don’t know about many besides American and U Michigan, both of which you should be fine for. Keep up the good work, and good luck.

Chance me?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1072869-what-do-you-think-my-chances.html</a></p>

Thanks, and sure!

I think you’re definitely on the right track to all of these schools. Only downside is the lack of rigorous classes, but you’ve done the most you could with what was offered, so they can’t be too harsh on you for that, at least I would hope not.

Thank you very much for your honest opinion. I know my school isn’t academically strong at all but I’ve been trying my hardest to instill some reform through the student focus group and have been succeeding in getting my school to add AP classes and consider period scheduling to allow more APs to be taken and other advanced courses  I hope I can voice that well in my essays so that the colleges I’m applying to can see that.
